Issue With Meljet 773 Paint

Sun May 07, 2006 4:18 pm

I recently downloaded what I thought was a very good paint and model for Meljet's 773 in Air New Zealand colors. Well, when I opened it up, I was alarmed that things didn't look right.
Below is what I mean. The same aircraft in Cathay colors is shown to assure you there's nothing wrong with my video settings.

What I'm seeing is that only certain panels (the star2 and port2 bmps, to be precise) are showing up properly, while the rest of the fuselage looks like it's much lower quality. All bmps are saved in extended 32-bit form, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks!

I guess you just downloaded a bad paint job for the ANZ 773. You should see if anyone else have made a similar repaint that looks nicer.

I found something you might be able to use.
try searching for " anz773fix.zip" in the avsim library. It should fix the texture problem for your aircraft  Smile

It looks like a problem with mipmaps on the fuselage. Those mipmaps cause the textures to go blurry in FS, depending on the system someone may have. Here's an easy way to fix it for the future. Go download and install this programme:

http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/download/dxtbmpx.EXE

Check the textures in question for mipmaps. If a texture file is 5.33 MB in size (1.33 MB when those textures are in DXT3), then it has mipmaps, while textures without mips are 4 MB big (or 1 MB for DXT3 textures). Open the texture in DXTBmp, make sure that under "Mipmaps", the checkbox "Include when saving" is unchecked, and then save the texture, but make sure you keep it in its original format (DXT3 or 32bit). Repeat these steps if there are other textures with mipmaps.

I used to make repaints for a while (I quit because my work was crap, not up to standards for me and because I don't have time for that anymore), and I learned myself the hard way about mips on textures.

AirPacific:
Thank you VERY much. That solves the problem I was having with the exterior.

LTU:
Thank you for your advice on the mipmaps. I will look into it on the interior textures, as they are kinda blurry.

Now I have a very pretty ANZ 773. Big grin
