BA Heritage Collection Outrage

Thu May 11, 2006 5:38 am

Hi,
Im sorry if someone has posted a similar thread already but I have just been reading in the latest Airliner World Mag that the BA Heritage collection based at RAF Cosford museum is being scrapped. This is probably the most outraged ive been with an article for a while. Apparently they are reducing their historic collection including a VC10, Trident and the only 707 on display in the UK to twisted metal aprt from the noses which will go to museums.
What I dont understatnd is why Cosford doesnt want them and would rather see them scrapped, why BA have ordered them to be scrapped instead of finding a new home for this historic collection and why they arnt being offered for sale for preservation. It seems extremely pointless to just destroy them.

i cant help but feel guilty about it.

from what ive read the 707 and trident cockpit will be chopped off and transferred to the museum of flight by Edinburgh. i think this is utterly depressing after seeing the photographs of them in great condition at cosford. i would rather they stayed there in 1 piece for people to enjoy properly rather than a little bit of them come up here. should have either shipped them up here in their entirety or left them where they were

very sad indeed. the shots of the 707 in the database look great  Sad such a shame to lose what must be the only full 707 and trident left in BA colours.

I agree. I'd be able to nip along the road to see them but I'd rather they remained intact somewhere else.

When is this due to happen? If it is not for a while, I'd like to go there and get some shots.

Disgraceful!

Well, that's a bonus.

I was a member of the Aircraft Preservation Society of Scotland a few years back but I let my membership lapse. I really must get off my backside and renew it.. and get along to West Fortune again. I think I said that here last year but this time it's nae kiddin'.  Smile

West Fortune

That'll be East Fortune then?? Great Concorde display, the rest is depressingly poor and I feel sorry for the Comet they have, once a great aircraft but now well past its sell by date. Should be unber cover at least

And the scrapping of the BA heritage collection is sacrilege.

Don't quote me on this but I'm sure I heard that work on the other aircraft was stopped to get the Concorde ready.

Heya,

One persons loss, is anothers gain. The reason that the aircraft are being moved, is because Cosford Museum was not taking enough care of the aircraft.

East Fortune Museum will be receving the following aircraft:

- Boeing 707-436: Forward Fuselage Only
- HST 1C: Nose Section Only
- Vickers Viscount: Complete Aircraft
- BAC 1-11: Complete Aircraft

Thanks
Mike

Woohoo, a complete BAC 1-11, too. It's still a shame about the Trident, though.

Heya,

Yeh. I really would've liked a whole Trident and B707. The BAC 1-11 aswell.

As far as i really care, the Vickers could get scrapped. Although, we should be really lucky with the aircraft we are getting and after saying that, the Vickers will look really nice.

The good thing about the BAC 1-11 is that you will be able to walk through it. Enter via the forward retractable stairs, and exit through the rear steps.

Thanks
Mike
