Need To Know Flying For MS Flt Simulator?

Wed Jun 07, 2006 8:22 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to get myself the MS flight simulator. Do I need to know to fly an aircraft to use the simulator?
Where can I get best info about the product?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, no need to know how to fly in real life. The sim will teach you to fly, if you take the flight lessons that are included.

You can also change the realism settings if you wish, you can turn them up or down to suite your needs.

I fly with most things on but you can for example set fuel to unlimited, etc.

As Csturdiv mentioned Ms FS also has lessons which should get you going in no time (and increasing your realism via the settings).

I do however suggest that if possible, you get yourself a joystick if you don't have one, you can fly without one but I think its much easier and more realistic with one.

You definately need a joystick...
I agree with the tutorials they're pretty good....
Don't imagine yourself flying a 747 out of the box though it will take you a lot of time and a lot of patience (I assume you never played the game before)....
If you need help I'm pretty sure the guys in this forum will help you out....
And just go to their website for the info and if you still have questions ask around in this forum.....
Uhhh What?

checkmark  I'f you're on a tight budget you can get a decent joystick at Wal-Mart for 19 bucks. It's a Saitek ST290 PRO I have it and I haven't had a problem with it, probably goona upgrade to something better in the near future.

Here's an official insider for FS9

Here's the official FS Homepage

You don't need to know how to fly a plane in real life, there are lessons that walk you through the Approach,Landing, and takeoff.

Once you get the hang of flying the lessons you can do a solo. When I first started I flew each lessons 25-40 times before I went out on my own.

Hope that helps a little bit

I highly recommend that if you have the money available, invest in a CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB. You can find it for $100 at amazon.com and it will forever change the way you fly. Its more real to me because its reacts better. Plus with all the buttons programable on the yoke, you probably won't have to use the keyboard again!

Have fun! If you want/need more help other than the lessons, the Sybex Guide to Flight Simulator 2004 is a valuable resource, in my opinion.

First off, the joystick you want (If you can foot the bill) is Saitek X52. Sweetist thing ever.

Either way, just do the tutoriels and ask around if you need help.
Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

Yeah you must be a properly certified ATPL holder and show your licence at the store before you can buy it. 2,000hr as captain on a 747 is recommended to get the best chance of being sold a copy.
