Airplane Model In LAX

Tue Jul 18, 2006 12:31 pm

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forums but is there any shop where you can buy models of civillian jets in LAX during transit. If there isnt one then how about if you leave the airport.

By model airplane I mean by the small ones which have a scale of 1:400 or 1:500
Cheers

Sad fact is that you will not find miniatures at LAX bu there is more than one place in the city that sell them, and of course you will not be able to get to them.

Sorry to add on to this thread but I'm wondering what those places in L.A. that sell models. I haven't found any in any place I've been, though that is mostly only the West L.A. and Beverly Hills area. BTW You can buy some models on the aircraft depending on the airline. I saw a few available on KLM duty free (Duty free is only on international flights though).

L.A. has a decent set of places that I was lucky to find. Burbank's House of Hobbies, Sky Jets 400 in Encino, and the Puzzle Zoo on the 3rd street Promenade. House of Hobbies (www.houseofhobbies.com) has the most well rounded collection which consists of 1/500, 1/400, 1/250, and 1/200 scale Die Cast from all the big brands and Plastic in the larger scales and a healthy collection of plastic style build your own kits. Sky Jets 400 (www.skyjets400.com) is as it suggests, primarily 1/400th scale die cast. Sky Jets 400 has the best collection if you are into 1/400 scale die cast. Puzzle Zoo has a very modest collection of 1/400 and 1/500 die cast, only stop by if you happen to be close by.

I'm sad to report but Puzzle Zoo has been downsized, I was just by there yesterday (didn't see your post until today) and I think the rent raises have driven them out of a large portion of the area they used to occupy they now occupy just 1 storeforn space instead of multiple areas. I'll check but I doubt they still styock anything that is specialized however I will check. I'll also check out the house of Hobbies, and if I get a chance I'll go to Sky Jets 400 as 400 scale is what I'm into. Thanks for the info and dcongrats on being a ANET member for 6 years.

Okay I've confirmed Puzzle Zoo no longer carries any aviation related models. I looked through the whole store and asked the clerk and she said she didn't know about any airplane models available at the store.

Thanks SkyvanMan, I did not even remember that it's been that long. Puzzle Zoo has been on the decline for years. It seems that the market is there but no one knows where or who to buy diecast models from in L.A. A few years ago there were to stores in the South Bay area that sold miniatures but they have both since closed. One was in the South Bay Galleria ans I think it was a Puzzle Zoo, the other was shop a block away from the Galleria and had a healthy selection but was open for less than a year. So now there's two and I would not have known about Burbank's House of Hobbies if I didn't search online myself and Sky Jets 400 happened to have a booth at the Van Nuys airshow.
