yes, it is safe to download stuff from avsim. I have downloaded lots of stuff from there, its not really the type of site that people want to upload things with viruses/spyware on, I think they also screen things that people upload for viruses/spyware.

FlightSim and AVSIM are the only sites I trust and download from. I've NEVER had a problem with either of them!

Agree with everything that's been said already.

Don't forget IFDG, they have some nice models there for FS2002 and I've never had a problem with anything I've downloaded.

Simviation.com is okay too.

Only problems I've had with avsim and simviation (I don't use flightsim- didn't want to sign up) are missing parts for the aircraft- like downloading a repaint but not the model.

that's hardly their fault but the fault of the person supplying them the file for not providing correct information.
The volume is simply too large to check everything.

Avsim.com, flightsim.com, & simviation.com are all well-maintained & safe websites.

Avsim is a very good website, you can trust it!

I even have my own paint on there, mind you it's very poor!  Wink

I did it over 2 years ago just messing around, it's also on flightsim.com

Filename on Avsim: posky_747-2u3b_phuket_air.zip

I prefer to use Avsim to flightsim.com, although I do use both!  Smile

Some reccomended aircraft:
IFDG A318/A319/A320/A321
IFDG MD-11
Meljet 777-200/300
Project Fokker F100/70
Project Opensky (POSKY) A340-200/300
Project Opensky 757-200/300
Simmers Sky MD-11
PMDG 737NG - Payware, but my favourite a/c on flightsim
PMDG 747-400 - Payware
LDS 767-300 - Payware

Thats why there is a section for "Original Aircraft" and "Aircraft Repaints, Textures and Modifications" that way you don't have to have dozens of copys of the model file. The size of those files aren't much compared to the texture file, but over time they really start to eat HD space and slow HD search speed.

problem is that a lot of people upload packs that are textures only into the "original aircraft" category.

I only use Avsim nowadays, Flightsim.com costs money if you want download speeds above 10KB/s and a guaranteed slot. Avsim is still free and I got 300KB/s earlier today. Possibly Flightsim has a bigger library for earler stuff, but newer are probably found on both sites.

I know what you mean. There seems to be a new person in charge of checking now files it's not that common anymore.

As for the origenal question. AVSIM runs a virus check on all files before public release.
