How Many Of You Will Be Buying FSX?

Sat Sep 23, 2006 1:04 pm

Hi everyone,

Just wondering how many of you out there will be purchasing the new FSX when it goes out on full release??

I have to admit, I do love the look of it, but I have done so much work on my FS2004 over the past 2 years, and at present, it is at its best its been. I think it will be very hard for me to part from it.

So, FSX may be a year or so away for me yet.

What are your thoughts?

Same here. While I want to run out and buy it straight away, I've spent too much time on sceneries, AI aircraft, AFCADs and everything to just uninstall FS9 and start again.

Like you, I'll wait for a year or so, and make sure I read comments from everyone who has bought it.

I'll buy it should I find it here in Costa Rica. I'll probably make a separate installation, so I can keep FS9 and go more and more into FSX, the more releases for FSX are made.

I spent so many hours upgrading and changing everything from planes, sounds, textures, water, skies, airports, scenery and all, also i spent more than 500 euros on software and hardware upgrades to bring it where it is that i won't be parting with it soon. Plus i hear a lot of bad stuff at the moment for FSX so it's no thank you for me. Fs2004 the Dec version is gorgeous for me  Wink

I have already bought FSX deluxe addition and like you guys I have worked real hard on my FS9 and still I think it will be time to part ways with FS9 and fall in love with FSX.

Without a doubt - sooner rather than later.

Same here but I did the same with previous versions. That's life! The sooner I get started on FSX add-ons, the more time I'll have to use them.

I thought about waiting...but after seeing the Beta 3 by another aviation student on my college dorm floor...needless to say, I have pre-orded the Deluxe version on Amazon.com, for 1-day delivery. I can't wait to try it with my CH Products Flight Sim Yoke, USB Rudder Pedals, and twin-engine Throttle Quadrant setup.

I will order the Deluxe Version as soon as possible next month, even my PC is not the best for it, but it will help me troubleshoot what needs to be worked on.

I will of course install it seperate from my FS9, I got plenty of HDD space, 200GB left so I can handle both simulators and my 3rd party stuff on FS9

Also another factor, is you should always buy FS X before upgrading your PC, cause you might find out FS X sucks in features  Smile and you save money by not bothering to upgrade he he

Yeap I'll be buying it for sure. I kind of slipped out of simming this past year as I've had a laptop as my only computer which was pretty old and very slow... giving it FS2004 to chew on pretty much would kill it! Still, I've not got a nice new desktopnow with a 20 inch screen and 7.1 surround sound, I'll be looking forwards to having a good play as soon as it comes out biggrin

its getting to be an expensive hobby for me, (at least until i start my private pilot) i just got in the CH Products Yoke and Petals setup today, there's $200 bucks right there. I do plan on buying FSX as soon as it comes out. But i know to really joy it i will be buying Vista and a DX10 card once both are released.

My current computer is not that bad but to really enjoy the upgraded graphics of FSX you are going to HAVE to run Vista w/ a DX10 vid card.

the point of the matter is that im looking to spend at least another $100 this fall between FSX DLX and an nice pair of USB headset, plus at least $500 this winter on Vista and and a good video card.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I have invested a small fortune (in my opinion) in add on's alone (new computer came due to the old one failing). Until Simflyers, Flytampa, ActiveCamera, ActiveSky, FSPassengers, PMDG, Ultimate Traffic, and Level D provide patches, not to mention the freeware products: Meljet, POSky, IFDG, and their respective sound sets, AFCAD files, and panels become abundant and available in FSX I'll wait.

When a reputable source tells me that it doesn't suck, I'll think about it. I barely have enough time to use my great FS9 setup as it is, so I'm not really rushing to upgrade to FSX.

yea ill be buying it. Ill install it alongside FS9 so I can continue to fly for my VA, and fly the PMDG / Level-D aircraft.

The demo ran fairly smoothly on my cuirrent machine, so I might be OK machine wise.

Ill end up buying FSX eventually, so I may as well just buy it now!

When I buy a new laptop or a computer in the next few years, that's when I'll get FSX.

Spent too much damn money and time on FS2004 and I've only had it not even for a year ater I bought this laptop. I'll keep using FS2004 until I get bored of it and then upgrade.  Smile

All video games are normally released on tuesdays in the USA and fridays in the UK.

I believe the 17th is a tuesday so I think it's unlikely to be any of those other dates you mentioned. The 3rd is too son - the UK release isn't gonig to be before the 27th, I don't think they'd leave such a big gap between the two.

Yeah, I just got an email in my inbox from Amazon, saying to epect delays as they changed their erronious date of release from October 6th to October 17th.

Thanks for the confirmation, though.

Anyone know how this is going to be modded as GMax isn't available anymore?

I haven't seen a website anywhere where someone has thought about this....it seems almost people assume old Gmax versions will work.

They might I don't know, but theres a chance they won't.

The cheapest UK price is £39.99 (US $75.47) - for the basic version.

The Deluxe is another £10 ($18.87 US).

just to let every one know, i was lucky to find a copy of FSX DLX locally (YUB TSEB) got it installed and running, but i must say its owns my system. its not a top dollar system but its not bad either. but here are the specs

AMD Althon 64 X2 3800+
nvidia 7800GT OC
2gb ddr

Right now im running run at 1280x1024 with global graphics at medium low and it is still running choppy

I going to be trying an SLI setup with two 7900GS tonight and see if it helps.

Yeah the Demo owned my system pretty good, I anticipate the full game will do the same. I'm running an almost identical setup as yourself:

AMD Opteron 148 (2.2gHz o/c'ed to 2.53)
7800GT OC
2gb ddr

Please try the SLI setup, I'm eager to see if they built code to take advantage of SLI in FSX. I wish they would release the full-all-out-verbantim-list everything specs about FSX, since I'm VERY curious to see if they build in SLI and Multi-Core support into it. If so, the people with nice computers are going to reap the benefits (espically when DX10 comes out!!).

I purchased it last night and will definitely keep FS2004 on the system. FSX loads horribly slow and if you change aircraft in flight it takes about 45 seconds for the whole process. They have put wing views on the airliners but I can't find the spot plane zoom tool option. ATC seems to be the same and
American Pacific is now gone. The Pacifica MD80s are still there with the new Pacifica schemed 737-800s. I guess you really need a high end system to get decent frame rates and I thought getting the Dell XPS would improve that.
The scenery and sounds are really nice but it sucks when I'm only getting 5.0 FPS. I'll stick with FS2004 since I have my AI traffice like I want and all those payware aircraft and sceneries. One more thing, Microsoft has given us music for each time you open the game....

ok
first off i want to say that i may have jumped to conclusions about the performance of my computer and FSX

two things
1. i had dual monitors horizontal span up and running however FSX not using the second
2. i did not have the most current nvidia drivers.

here is what i have found in my testing tonight

i first ran 3dmark 05 on my 7800gt oc and a single 7900gs (6962 vs 7306) so the 7900gs is a little faster

then i ran 2 7900gs's in sli and got 9870

the problem was my ps does not have enough connectors to run everything in my system so i had to unplug my dvd drive to run the benchmarks.

now going back to the performance of FSX

i went back to just one 7900gs in my system, updated the drivers and disabled my second monitor.

Started up FSX and everything ran better then before.
next i but the graphic settings back to HIGH and it still runs good, a little choppy but not bad.

so long story short, i could not run sli tests tonight, and i did not go back to my 7800gt yet. as i get more time i will run more tests.

so to make a longer story even shorter
my system is not owned but rather just ok
im still waiting for Vista and DX 10 vid cards

good night

It looks fantastic, but now I am not too sure.

After reading AVSIM, the ATC system has not changed much and even on HIGH end computers, still has terrible frame rates.

I currently have a expensive rig ie AMD4000+ and X850XT video card, which is not directX 10 compatible Sad

I guess I will decide during the next 3 months.......................

I don't think any cards are dx10 compatiable yet...........I don't understand why people are obsessed with DX10.

To make the game run fast you need more powerful hardware. DX10/Vista and a DX10 video card might offer some small graphical additions, but they won't any noticable difference to frame rates.

The day you install vista and dx10 you aren't going to see huge frame rate increases, it'll be probably be less with Vista taking up extra resources (if you have a dual core system it might not be too bad).

Everyone has XP and Dx9 and the game will run happily on that. Low frame rates are from older hardware. An AMD 4000+ is not old hardware (although newer stuff is around).

Quote:

Dell XPS would improve that.

What are the specs - thats the important thing. Is it a laptop? Laptops really aren't set up for games.

A new video card fitted to a desktop with an old card can transform the PC for video games.

They're going to offer an FSX upgrade for the 744(F) for a "nominal" fee and I think it's the same for the 737. The idea is that the original package plus the upgrade will be about the same price as the new version, which will be FSX compatible from the start.

Having said above that I'd be rushing out to buy FSX ASAP, it occurred to me shortly afterwards that there isn't much point in me buying it till the PMDG upgrades are available. But I'll buy it immediately after that.  Smile

Probably not, but there might be a 737NG v2 coming from them later down the road. Even the 747 needs to be heavily modified to work with FSX.

To add to what LTU932 said...no. PMDG has stated (on the avsim forums if I'm not mistaken) that their products will not work with FSX until they release a patch for it, so I wouldn't be rushing to the store just yet.

again i must say that FSX is evolutionary not revolutionary
things that i have seen so far with having FSX

the graphics are better, not as good as i was hoping for but not bad

New Multiplayer system, uses gamespy

More missions with "rewards"

In reflection i must say that i was happy with fs9 and it ran great on my system.

now the one thing that ms had said that there will be a DX10 patch once vista is released. I hoping that this will help the graphics out.

Looking back I now wished that i waited until next year when DX10 vid cards and Vista would be out before jumping the gun with FSX

Question:
How will Vista change the overall operations of FSX? The head IT guy in my dad's office was showing me a patch of Vista beta that he dowloaded and tested. Vista is simply "glassy" and looks like the latest Apple/Mac Operating system (Do not jump on me I know they didn't "steal" it). It's just a prettier version of XP. How does that improve anything? Shouldn't it be all hardware related?

I just got mine from Best Buy. I'm having trouble registering it online right now. It says server is busy, so I'm very limited with what I can do with it. Anyone else have this problem?

The only reason Vista is going to make things better is because DirectX 10 is Vista-only. DX-10 will make things prettier, but it is doubtful that performance will be any better, if anything, the same (or worst case, worse).
