Pmdg Training Centre

Fri Sep 29, 2006 10:55 pm

Hi All

This is a post really more for an opinion of you guys rather than anything concrete (for now).

For a long time I have had the idea of opening a training centre for MS FS addicts, particularly for the PMDG addons. As you will see from my flag I am based in Argentina (Buenos Aires) so initially, if the idea ever took off the market here would be the target....

What do you guys think?
Do PMDG currently run anything like this - I mean certify training centres?

IMHO I think that FS Pilots (based on my thoughts) could go for this as although there are so many great tutorials out there, there is nothing better than human interaction, especially with things like the FMC etc etc.

My idea would extend to general lectures from real life pilots on the particular equipment the course would cover through the practical lessons and 'line tests'.

I just guess it could help a few of those how take their hobby seriously.

Note that the idea here isnt just to install 20 machines and let people come and play with them. I would love the backing of PMDG (or PSS etc etc) to hold formal courses and lessons...

What are your thoughts? Stupid idea?

Thanks as always for the feedback.

Cheers / saludos

Stupid idea? Absolutely not. You clearly have given this some thought. That said, there are some problems:

  • To make that kind of thing profitable, it would have to be very expensive. There are some dedicated simmers out there, but money is your biggest obstacle. If I'm spending a pile of cash on training, I'd rather learn to fly a real Cessna than a simulated 737.
  • You have to think of your customers. I can't think of any place in the world that has enough interested simmers to give you a steady stream of business.

If you're interested in setting up this kind of thing, here's what I would do: go to the flightsim conference in Denver each year and offer a weekend seminar. You won't be able to quit your day job, but it's the only way I can see to make something like this a viable operation.

Good luck!  bigthumbsup

why not make a dvd. not as good as human interaction maybe so but more practical, (and cheaper!) and you can still have humans on it explaining everything to people in their own livingroom as it were.

with different chapters of the learning process, or over 5-10 editions of dvds depending on how in depth you want to go.

could be sold along side the manufacturers products on websites etc.
