Norway & Iceland Airports On DVD?

Sun Oct 29, 2006 10:38 pm

Hi all

If I'm in the wrong section, many apologies!

I was looking at the WorldAirRoutes website (the flight deck DVDs they produce) and wanted to get the DVD which covers Longyearbyen (ENSB) and Tromso (ENTC). Which airline(s) covers it? Also is it still available?

I have also spotted that there are some other Iceland airports on DVD and remember a few years back it was on the Islandsflug DVD. Is this too also still available?

Can anyone also recommend a stockist here in the UK or in the EU.

Thanks!

Jeremy

Longyearbyen might be a problem. That route was flown by Braathens (i don´t see that dvd available on their site, so that might be sold out). Today the route is flown by SAS but i can´t see any DVD with them. Tromso is easier as it is on both the Norwegian and on the Wideroe DVD. I think both of them are worth buying just for the spectacular scenery.

What DYflyer says about the Norewgian Shuttle and Wideroe DVDs is true, they are well worth buying if you want to see spectacular scenery from Norway.

Try http://www.buchairshop.co.uk/ I ordered from them last week and am very impressed. Delivery too 3 days.
Failing doesn’t make you a failure. Giving up and refusing to try again does!

We filmed Longyearbyen and it was on the Braathens video which is sold out now however there is a possibility that program might come back on DVD in 2007 or 2008...

Hey EMA747! Thanks for the link! At least I know of UK stockist which has ALL the JustPlanes DVDs so far!

Hi Justplanes! That'd be awesome if you could bring Longyearbyen back! I want to visit this area in the near future. I've always been fascinated by the polar regions! Have you ever thought of filming the Antarctic flights from Christchurch? And also using the British Antarctic Survey Twin Otters?

Thank you for all your help! Obviously I must a few years too late asking about the Islandsflug DVD! Such a shame! I remember the approach into Vestmannaeyjar (Iceland in July 2001) so vividly and would love to have a video memory of it!

Islandsflug might also be released on dvd at some point but I believe not anytime soon...

I ordered the Wideroe Dash 8 from Buchair on Wednesday evening and it arrived through my letterbox on Friday morning! Fast delivery!

Thanks EMA747 for the recommendation! I'll certainly order from them again!

I've watched half the DVD so far and I am impressed! I was very interested to see Tromso maybe it's just me but it didn't seem quite so challenging as the charts suggest! Maybe I'll have to buy the Norwegian DVD and see the difference! It is also a bonus seeing Hammerfest (does anyone know how far it is to North Cape?). It was nice to see the captain Lars Fagerstad giving little pieces of information to the view as he and his colleague flew!

Does anyone know what time of year this was filmed? It seems to be probably March maybe because the light is good and the mountains are still snowy. I can't see it during December/January personally as I'd expect the far north to experience less sunlight hours!

Thanks again to all!

Very close!
Wideroe was filmed in mid-April 2005.

JustPlanes, is there any chance of seeing the Icelandair/Air Iceland DVD in stock again anytime soom? Or maybe a newer version with the 752w and 763? (And including BWI in an Icelandair DVD would probably make it the best IMO - a friendly suggestion)

I think there is a chance to see the Icelandair again simply because it contains the 757-300 and is the only dvd we had of this type... Not sure if it will be in the next 6-12 or 18 months though...
A new Icelandair dvd is not in the planning for now...

Thanks for the info. Relatively good news.
I ordered the Wideroe DVD and just got it today. Looks like a great one from what little I've seen so far.
