Im Unsing Vista And FSX!

Tue Nov 14, 2006 2:58 am

Hey, i got my hands on the Second Windows Vista Beta version and so i have been playing FSX with vista the last days and it works so muuuuuuuuuuuuch better.

My previous stats were: 178-212 FPS playing with all settings to the max

My current stats are 249-361 FPS!!! playing with all settings to the max

My Spechs are:

Dell XPS 600

Intel Pentium 3.40Ghz
4Gb Kingston RAM
Two Nvidea 7950GTX2 Cards with 512Mb Vram each so 1024Vram in total
320Gb 7200Rpm HD
19" Ultra Sharp Dell Flat Panel
X-fi sound blaster card

Im using Windows Vista 64-bit operating system

So for those saying Vista wouldnt help FSX well i guess your wrong!

I need screens, with the FPS and show me a high detailed city like NYC or London, and that will let me know your sliders are really set at max.

are you sure its 24.9 and 36.1 FPS not 249 and 361?

I have a GeForce 7950GT and I get 10 in cities with max settings

I thought FSX is not optimized for SLI though.

I must agree unless you post screens of this I do not believe it. No one has frames like that, nor would it make sense to increase from 100 to 200 anything over 40 is not needed, that being 40 fluid at max setting. Your eyes are not able to see more than about 32.

It dosn't add up with a 3.4Ghz - that means you have a 32 bit P4, not exactly new technology.

I installed Vista RTM (Release to Manufacture) the other day. Ended up not getting on with it as much as XP so got rid. Maybe I'll try it again tommorow to see if it improves FS.

Just as a benchmark, I have a core2duo 1.86ghz, intel gma950, 1gb ram and FSX runs fine under winXP. Infact FSX was more than playable on my old Centrino 1.2Ghz, Intel855, 1GB ram. So I have no idea how people moan that they cant run it?

It's only because some are unwilling to sacrifice ANYTHING and expect incredible performance out of any and every system as soon as the game is released, which is completely unreasonable...

I thought that, but FSX is very demanding even on lower settings.

Even people with the most powerful pcs should lower the settings a bit. The most powerful computer dosn't mean always that you can run the game with all detail - but you have a choice of stuff, so you can more detailed aircraft OR detailed ground, or sea textures, or AA..........

I have a Core 2 E6700 and a 7800GT 256, an 3GB of Ram, id install vista on it but i am to afraid to partition the drive, if it fails ill loose alot of gigs in flight simulator addons. I have vista on my Notebook and love it. I'm in need of a new graphics card, probably a 8800GTX. I'm glad to see the frames your getting and hopefully when vista comes out DX10 will raise my fps up a bit.

That's the only explanation - even if he were to be getting that speed 270-360 is a hell of a range of speeds - 90fps - most of us don't get anywhere near that so to say the difference between a large airport and elsewhere is 90fps - I don't think so!

Yes but his card (Nvidia 7950) doesn't support DX10. The only card right now that supports DX10 is the Nvidia 8800. FSX is not DX10 either, I think Microsoft will release a patch when Vista is out.

Ok, common misconceptions -

1. If its got a Vista driver, it will work under DX10.
2. The Nvidia range of cards have a Vista driver.
3. Therefor any Nvidia card will work under DX10.
4. A card does not need to support DX10 to work under DX10, as DX10 contains backward compatability to DX9, DX8, DX7 and beyond.
5. A card that does not support DX10 will work as it does under DX9, you just wont get all the new DX10 features, some are handled in software.
6. 'DX10 support' and 'supported under DX10' are different concepts.

Out of all of those, the most important is number 1 and its worth repeating: if it has a Vista driver, it works under DX10.

Quoting JD747 (Reply 31):

FSX can already be used under Vista Release Candidates, which has DX10 and only DX10, so therefore its DX10 ready. If you have a card installed that supports DX10 then you get the extra capabilities available under DX10.

I didn't say that this card doesn't work under Vista nor DX10, or at least I didn't mean it. As you say the card will work perfectly but it won't get the new DX10 features.

The same can be said here. FSX will work perfectly under Vista and DX10, but it won't take advantage of DX10 until the patch for DX10 is released as you can read in this interview with one of the software developers of FSX:

Hey guys... first of all I would like to say sorry for my long absence and second off all i made a big mistake like some of you have said.. and im very embarassed about being so excited that i missed out typing the decimal points..  Sad

To clear things off now:

The FPS i got before vista were 17.8-21.2

And with Vista 24.9-36.1 FPS with all sliders set to max.

Im also sorry for my long absence that was caused by a medical problem in my family.. but now I am back  Smile

Thanks for the update. Those are still fairly impressive numbers though, considering that your sliders are all maxed. I get similar framerates, but I've implemented many of the tweaks that are available on the net, and I certainly don't have my sliders maxed (some are fairly high, and some are fairly low...)

Hope everything is well with your family....

RE: Im Unsing Vista And FSX!

I am downloading the FSX demo right now to see how I like it compared to the version I am running now. If the game looks as good as what Microsoft has posted and the game runs ok I'll order it.

I have a Dell also. Mine is a 3.2ghz p4 (not dual core unfortunately). 2 gigs of ddr2, the 10k rpm SATA drive 70ish gigs, and the nvidia quadro fx 3400.

We will see shortly how it goes.

Ok I tried the demo and honestly wasn't too impressed with it. Maybe it is just the demo but it seems really laggy. I have a pretty decent system but this didn't perform anything like my current version (2004). Is the full version any better than the demo?

Retarded me. I had HT turned on so FSX couldn't get any more than 50% of my cpu. I'll repost after I turn HT off.
