Does anyone know how good the following graphics card is with Flight Simulator X?

256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™

Kind regards

That is far to "slow". Sorry!
+ It is not just that. You must also have atleast 2GB memory + a better g-card.

It will work, but don't expect to be able to run top settings or get high FPS.  Smile

In all honesty, if you have the money, an upgrade would be the best thing; however, if you have a lower end system, I wouldn't recommend putting a top spec graphics card in it. What are the rest of your specs?

By the "Mobility Radeon" moniker, I can safely assume that this card is in a laptop. It's probably better than most portable GPUs, but as everyone before me has said, don't expect to get much out of FSX.

If you want to game with the latest flightsim, eschew the portables and get yourself a high-powered, purpose-built rig.

Thanks for your responses, it is indeed in a laptop.

However, I checked Dell and HP and found that both only offer up to 256MB GFX cards. And since I need a laptop for univerrsity, I cannot justify buying a desktop computer just for FSX! Alas...

Looks like I'll have to wait a while until I get to experience FSX for myself but thanks again all the same.

If you have the cash, I suggest looking at alienware (http://www.alienware.com) they have excellent laptops for gaming-- at a price.

If you want a good gaming laptop, I'd suggest a Dell XPS M1710. It's really not cheap (starts around $2300), but you'll be able to play FSX pretty well. Check it out.

Of course, if you really want to go batshit crazy, pick up a Falcon Northwest FragBook DR 6800. It costs about 5 grand, but hey, that's not a biggie for some people.  Wink

And BTW the Aliewares are nice, but they're owned by Dell now anyway, and performance would be about the same as that of the XPS M1710 while costing you more money.

Stick with FS9 I get excellent results with this graphic card on my Toshiba laptop even with the highest demanding sceneries such as scenery frankfurt!

And after all why bother switching to fsx? You hardly get any freeware with it whereas fs9 is at its peak freeware wise!

My 2 cents...  Smile

Is a 512mb graphic card enough to run FSX without too many troubles ?

Depends. There are really cheapo graphics cards with 512 MB of memory, and then there are really nice cards with the same amount. Memory can influence performance, but it's far from the determining factor.

If you happen to know the model and number (i.e. GeForce 7600 GT) of your card, then I may be able to give you some more solid advice.  Smile

Hi all, could someone please help me to get a Video Card?

If I have these specs:
250GB HDD
2GB NECC Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz SDRAM Memory
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual-core Processor 4200+

All I would like is about 30-40fps at most airports, 20 at major airports and about 50 in the air.

EDIT: My bidget is around US$390 (AU$500).

Forgoing the spicy (and expensive) card-on-card action of SLI, I can get you damned close to that price with an eVGA 8800 GTS. Its only superior the $800 GTX variant, this card was the first to be built for directX 10 from the ground up. It's guaranteed to knock the socks (and pants) off of every other single-chip solution out there, save the aforementioned GTX.

Check it out here. [via NewEgg]
