FSX Specs---Need Help

Tue Nov 28, 2006 2:33 am

Hey a.netters,

I got the FSX Deluxe a couple of days ago and I put it on my laptop and it lags here and there. I really want to play it in a pro way. Can anyone tell me the best way to get the most out of FSX, but still not to be to costly?

Yes!

Oh... No...  silly

The best thing to improve performance is to lower your sliders. You will lose some of the eye candy, but with less powerful systems there is not a lot else you can do.  Smile

Have a look through this tweak guide; there's some nice tricks in there!

Wait for 6 months or so, but Vista and one of the new DX10 video cards. FSX should be amazing after that.... (it might be costly though....)

Hi,

I am computer adviser (read saleman) and one of my client bought a HP 7680 + Nvidia 9650 GT.

He was not able top play FSX.

Do you have any very good computer (no HP) to recommand to will play FSX perfectly??

Regards

There isn't much out there yet, that will run FSX perfectly smooth with maximum settings. FSX was designed to take advantage of newer technology and software (DirectX 10 and Windows Vista). Until the hardware and software is available, it will be difficult for most people to run FSX at maximum settings with decent framerates....

cheers

The fact is FSX is designed to run on technology that hasn't been quite released yet, so you can pour all the money into it you want, but you just will not get the results till DX10 and Vista come out and subsequent upgrades after that. Save your dosh until these come out then splash out and buy the equipment thats guaranteed to run it rather than running the risk of it not.

Simply no, FSX will not run good on most of the laptops even on the high end ones. What I recommend is wait around 2 months, to see whats up with Vista an the drivers for DX10, look for some benchmarks and you decide wether is for you or not. From what I know right now, no computer is able to run FSX at max.

Brand has little to do with performance - telling someone to buy a PC 'because it's a HP' or 'because it's a dell' is not good advice. It means nothing (well not nothing, but it's not the most important thing).

The GF96650 didn't exist either, so I'm curious to what you actually sold them.

And remember not to buy from you

Besides the other recommendations regarding computers running Vista and DX10, most of the positive comments regarding running of FSX have suggested having either 3 or 4Gb of RAM on your computer. There have been a few postings at both AVSIM and other FS websites that users have boosted their RAM to 3 or 4Gb and seen better performance, even on WIN-XP.

I mean Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT instead of Nvidia 9650 GT...just a typo error  Wink

and HP: my client can't smell HP...that the reason.

I know the brand have nothing to do with performance but if a client don't want a HP...what can I do!

Thanks to educate me about FSX, I will suggest to wait for Vista. On my side, I prefer to really fly instead of computer flying, ...I have my Canadian PPL!

Thanks again,

I laughed out loud when I read that. "Smell" in English means "geruch" in German!  biggrin

Either way, playing FSX well with maximum settings takes some really serious hardware, something like the nVidia 8800 series, and probably two of those cards. The 7950 should be able to handle it well; you'd just have to turn the settings down a bit.

I found a great tweak guide on PMDG's forums earlier today...I applied most of them, defragged my drive and got about a 5-7 FPS gain from it. One of the tweaks worked especially well, the one to do with decreasing the stutter when moving your view around in the VC.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm running FSX on a 2.5 year old Compaq laptop and getting around 15FPS in most situations with decent settings minus AI aircraft...so for all those badmouthing FSX on the fastest computers, you must be either not up to speed on how to get the best performance out of your machine or are very stubborn with your sliders...
