I'm a student and freelance reporter in New York. I'm working on a story about spotting as a hobby, and I'm looking for a few A-Net members who would be willing to be interviewed BY PHONE. (Board posts and e-mail comments are welcome, too, but I can only use them as background.)
Some of the questions I'm trying to answer:
-What gets people interested in the hobby? What brought you out to go spotting for the first time? What brought you back?
-Are spotters mostly people in the aviation industry? If not, why not?
-Have you traveled to go spotting? What your best sighting?
-How do you feel about police/authorities' attitudes towards spotters? Are they fair? Consistent?
-Perhaps most succinctly: When you see [airplane X] flying overhead, what do you see that normal people don't see? What is the magic?
I'll be working on this through the weekend. My deadline is Monday.
Please contact at bronxreporter [at] gmail.com. I will follow up.
Many, many thanks,
PS) In the interest of transparency: My A-net membership preceded the idea to do this story and I have a novice-level airplane IQ. I'm trying to approach this story as an outsider, not an insider.
