Very rarely I get a message saying real weather could not be dowloaded but then I just restart fs and that's it. What problems are you having exactly?

It says something like

"The internet connection could not be started, please retry your connection and check your settings".

The PC was connected to the internet at the time.

The last time this happened I reinstalled FS but this didn't help, so I reformatted my PC - only to find that the fault was a temporray one at Jeppesons end  banghead

It would appear to be a temporary issue at Jeppesen's end as my Internet connection is up and I have the error saying it couldn't download real-world weather and to check you internet connection and try again. Should be fixed soon, I'd think (and hope). Happened to me once before.

This usually happens once every few months, Jeppesen do maintenance on their servers etc, and can be down from anything as little as a couple of hours to at the very most a couple of days.

It's nothing wrong with your PC or your FS, just sit tight and it will be back before you know it!!

Why would you use crappy FS9 real weather in the first place? ActiveSky is the only way to go.

Cos not everyone can afford it. And there may be many other reasons.. personal preferences etc. And fs9 weather is NOT crappy.

Correct! the thing people get wrong is that you need to turn on high alitude wind update aswell! becaus eif you dont the wind data will be taken from gound METAR info. and so the aircraft will be hit badly by wind changes. Look under the weather settings and turn it on  Silly FS9 weather will then no longer cause your plane to stall on massive wind changes...

BTW im at a friends now. and in 3-4 hours i will be back home. And im wondering if the server is back on?

Do you mean the wind-aloft data? If it's off, there is hardly any wind up there, only on approach at say 3000' or so. However, with winds aloft you can still get the aircraft to almost stall when it's sudden. However, I've noticed it's a bit better when you have rate of change set to mild.

BTW, still real-weather is still not up, just tried. Which is too bad as I'm in YEG now and the winds are really kicking up  Smile

Man was I pissed this didn't work last night...I was stoked to shoot some approaches at SEA with the winds we were having! I suppose my power went out anyways, so I wouldn't have been doing it long even if I could d/l the weather.

Hey, the server being down forced me to buy activesky 6 yesterday..

The programm is really good and createes virtual weather stations to get better wind data enroute. It also estimates wind speed for your route etc.
Another nice feature is the METAR it gives you while still being far from the destination without having to tune in into the ATIS freq.

activesky never goes down  Smile

and you don't have to modify the weather stations .txt file every time you install a new airport in FS9.

I'm having problems too. Doesn't it always go down at this time of the year? I seem to recall this being an annual event for MSFS.

Yeah, definitely down. Hope they get it fixed up soon. Is this (as CV990A) says, something that happens at this time of year? I remember this happening before, but don't remember when. I just know it has been a while...

Hey Big grin

I got some insider ino. from a friend at PMDG..

Jeppesen is undertaking annual server updates which will allow higher bandwidth because of people using FSX and FS2004 real weather at the same time. This should take latest till thursday and the servers will then be up.

BTW check up on the main www.avsim.com website for the next days because they always get inf. straight from MS and last year the server upgrade was announce and so was its progress. So for sure they will give us some info. in the net days.

Luckily I have activesky 6 now and I can only tell you to get it aswell because its just great  Silly

Merry Christmas and a happy new year !

Leo (Qantas744ER),

Thanks for the information. It's pretty much what I figured, but I appreciate the news as I've been wondering what's going on. I'd expect AVSIM should have an update soon too.

Active Sky is an awesome programme and I would recommend it to anyone. Next time you are looking to expand FS9, can I suggest you go for AS instead of some scenery or an aircraft.

Yes, the default weather in FS9 is much better than FS2002 but it cannot be compared to what you get with AS......just my two bobs worth!!

Good Day All,

After submitting a support ticket with Microsoft, the following is the email I received:

""Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Support.

My name is Amol and I will be helping you with Flight Simulator X Deluxe.

As I understand, while playing Flight Simulator X Deluxe you are unable to update the real world weather. If I have misunderstood the issue, please let me know.

We are aware of this issue and it seems that at this point of time the Real world weather servers are going through a power outage right now. They are expected to be and running in 24 - 48 hours. It is recommended that you try to update the real world weather after 24 - 48 hours. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

I am looking forward to your response. ""

Lets see how this turns out....

Cheers,
