Post Your Model/s Collection

Tue Jan 09, 2007 4:26 pm

I suppose this has been a thread numerous times in the past, but I haven't seen one lately. I've had fun growing my collection of 1:200 scale model civil aircraft over the past few years. So far I've only invested in Hogan, SkyMarks and Flight Miniatures - altho in the next few week I'm about to get my first big "solid mahogany" job.

Heres pics of my latest aquisition that arrived today. I will post a few more later when I take a few more pics of the rest of them.

Apologize in advance for the bluriness. The camera is 6 Megapixels and have been shrunk down to fit reasonably into a forum post.

The AWACS has crash landed on my floor a couple times in the past too, so I glued the push pins into the cieling and haven't had a problem since.  Smile

here's a few more of mine. My biggest is a 1:100 Thai 747-400. Its actually too big to fit on a shelf - maybe I will try your idea of "flying" it from the ceiling? Do you use nylon fishing type line ? Damn!!! I have a concrete ceiling

Yes. I can't stand the plastic Herpa (and other similar kits) models.

My 727, which I probably should've mentioned in my post, is a 1/200 Minicraft. The 733 is a 1/144 Minicraft. working on decaling the engines, as well as final assembly of the wings. Then it's just up to the fuselage. I hope to have her done before I head back to school next week, but who knows at this point.  Wink

In the "hanger" awaiting MX are-

1/144 757 (modelmaster I think...not that great of a kit)

1/144 Revell DL/SAS/Gulf Air 767-300

1/144 Revell UA 747-400

1/144 Minicraft DL 777

1/144 Revell UA DC-10

1/144 Revell DL DC-10

1/144 Minicraft DL MD-80

1/200 Hasegawa MD-90 with DL decals

1/144 Airfix KLM DC-9

1/144 L-1011 (not sure which manufacturer) with EA and DL decals

1/144 Minicraft PA 707 - partially completed

I may be missing a kit here or there... I guess I got quite a bit of work ahead of me. Big grin

I collect 1/400 scale diecast, since I have neither the space nor the talent for larger kits. Here's a couple pics of my 732 collection, which has grown since I took the pics. I have 2 other shelves of various planes (117 models in total), but they're too disorganized to share right now. You can catch a glimpse of part of my "planes of FAI" collection on the second shelf. Apologies for the blurriness of the second shot, my old camera refused to focus on the planes, no matter how hard I tried. Thankfully, I'm getting a new one tomorrow!  hyper

On the subject of hanging planes from the ceiling, I learned from a hobby shop owner that black or gray thread is better than nylon fishing line, as ultraviolet rays weaken the fishing line enough to break. He said he found this out the hard way when, in one day, he had 3 1/72 scale models (a B-36, F-15, and C-130) make unexpected crash landings on the floor of the store. Upon inspection, the fishing line was, he said, as brittle as glass.

Does anyone use Wings900 to make their complete collection, it is a very helpful site in tracking what you have in your collection, here is the link to mine

I mainly collect 1:400 scale models. The only 1:200 scale I've got was a plastic assembly kit that I got in flight, and the only 1:500 scale was when I was at the Boeing Store in Everett WA, and couldn't remember whether my other models were 1:400 or 1:500. Here's my model collection:

1:200 scale

QF Boeing 747-400 VH-OJA

1:400 scale

QF Boeing 747-400 VH-OJA Dragon Wings

CX Boeing 747-400 B-HUI (CXcitement branded, not sure who manufactured it)

House livery Boeing 777-200LR Gemini Jets

CX Boeing 777-300ER B-KPA Phoenix Models

SQ Boeing 747-400 9V-SPQ Phoenix Models

Also, a couple of new additions that I haven't photographed:

House livery Boeing 777-300ER N5017V Phoenix Models

SQ Airbus A340-500 9V-SGD Phoenix Models

1:500 scale

House livery Boeing 777-300 Herpa Wings

While we are on the topic of models, does anyone know where I can get a 1:400 scale airport, and roughly what the price will be?

Gemini Jets make an amazing 1:400 terminal. (See pics in my above post) AirlineMuseum.com has some for $229.00, but there is probably a store in Australia that sells it. There is also the airport mat, which has all the ground markings and 2 runways. It costs about $95. The terminal holds about 22 aircraft, has multiple A380 gates, and airline gate stickers for customizing your gates. I really like mine, but I think Herpa also makes some 1:400 scale airport stuff. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Gemini is a brand I trust, and that looks quite good. I notice in the "features" section it lists "3 piece contemporary airport terminal" - does that mean I can use part of it as a smaller terminal since I only have a small collection at the moment?

I am looking for a store in Australia that stocks it, though, and I've tried various Gemini retailers in PER who don't have any in stock. I'm a bit hesitant about shopping online. Appreciate the help, at least now I know what brand I'm looking for.

Post it on another site, then post the link to it? Or just describe your collection with scale, manufacturer, airline, and aircraft type.
