Just started using Vista and FSX with a new PC
. Can't really comment on what the improvment is as I never used FSX on the old PC
I've tried FSX and Vista at Heathrow and Innsbruck (as I've just returned from there on holiday) and got 6FPS and 12 FPS respectively with all settings maxed out.
An interesting point with regards to Vista is that it has a Windows Experience Rating (WER). It rates your PC
on a scale of 1 to 10 - with 10 being really good. So here is my components and the corresponding WER.
Intel Core 2 Due 6600 (5.3)
Asus P5B Motherboard (not rated)
2Gb PC6400 800Mhz DDRII RAM (not rated)
Nvidia 8800GTS DX10 Card (5.9)
160Gb Serial ATA-II Hard Drive (5.5)
The Microsoft website indicates that for gaming, a WER of 3.0 or higher is sufficient.
I never had the sliders maxed with FS9 and my old PC
so it won't really bother me to not have the sliders all the way to the right with FSX. I now need to start tweaking and experimenting and trying to get FSX to how I like it.
On another point my PC
seems slow without using FSX. Start-up and general tasks all seem slower in Vista.
