Airliner XP A320 - WOW

Wed Jan 31, 2007 7:25 am

Airliner XP appears to be a conglomeration of Dreamfleet, FlightScenery and Reality-XP, and they're making an A320 for FS9 and FSX (A330 and A340 to follow). From the screenshots, I only have one question:

When is it going to be released?!?!?!?!  drool

This add-on is going to be amazing; they have an Aeroflot A320 Captain on the team as well - only means good things.

If this is half as good as it sounds this could be the greatest add-on we have seen yet from any company.

I wilco that!

Going to be released Q1 2007 or at the latest Q2 2007, and I agree about the sentiment of "greatest addon we've seen yet" from what I've seen...

This will be the Airbus add-on to have by far instead of the FeelThere crap, their aircraft always lack a lot of fit and finish.

From what you've seen...meaning the overhead panel?

I'd agree it looks pretty sweet, but that's a pretty bold proclamation to be making from a few early development screenshots.

Yeah, perhaps. I see your point. However, from reading what they are doing and what kind of simulation they're creating, I'm extremely impressed and if it lives up to what they say, I rather think it WILL be the best yet.

I'm waiting for some previews of the visual model in order to make an opinion. But the panel looks pretty promising. If that's truely Dreamfleet working with FlightScenery and RealityXP, then we could expect something as high quality (if not better) as the Dreamfleet 727.

I'd agree it looks pretty sweet, but that's a pretty bold proclamation to be making from a few early development screenshots.

The interesting thing is that while this is the company's first product, their various components have brought us add-ons that are unarguably first rate:

Dreamfleet: B737-400 (FS2002), Baron 58, Bonanza A36, 727
FlightScenery: Providence, Portland
Reality-XP: Garmin GNS430 and 530, WX-500 weather radar, Sandel EHSI (just to name a few)

I have no reason to believe that this add-on will not be on the level of products put out by PMDG or LDS.

What's important to note there is that PMDG also has the A320 series underway. Given the level of improvement we saw in the time between PMDG's 737NG release and the 747-400 release (to say nothing of what they have in the works with their MD-11), topping whatever PMDG has in store for us with their A320 series is going to be a tall order.

Of course, a virtual cockpit with no FPS hit (  crossfingers  ) is a pretty good start.

PMDG has a lot of things underway. The MD-11 has been in production for ages, and there's still an FSX version of the 737 and 747 to put out. It could be a very long time before PMDG puts out an A320, and this one is very likely to beat it to market.

Not that PMDG isn't going to be worth it when it finally arrives, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one took the prize of best add-on for 2007.

Correct.. PMDG will not update the 737NG but create a whole new one for FSX!

BTW the PMDG a320 has higher chances of beating this a320 because it will probably come out later giving more developement time + PMDG is in no release date stress not to mention PSS with their oh so great 777 last year...  Silly

BTW it is reported that PMDG is the first FS developer to obtain official Airbus data that for the past years has not been given out to FS developers unlike Boeing.

Ill wait for both of them and check them out.. Big grin

If they were going to come out at about the same time, then I might wait to compare them, but I doubt that's going to be the case.

I agree, the realism and little hit to the FPS on the PVD scenery is amazing. That is what I call as real as it gets, besides a few minor issues, (only airport employees/frequent attentive flyers would notice), I have yet to see ANY scenery pay or freeware come close to this. Except maybe George Grimshaw's BOS V2.

Have yet to take a look at PDX, but it makes me wonder if i'll just be flying transcons from now on.

Let's hope this 320 is going to be as great as they say, I look forward to seeing the visual model, but the overhead panel does look very very real.

Agreed, you would think though looking at the screenshots that both interior and exterior will be of equal quality. They strike me as being the sort of developers that won't skimp on any particular aspect, saying that, it has happened before.

I have been waiting a while for a quality A320 to come along for FS9. I'm glad I checked here before getting the feelthere product. I've got the DF Baron and Bonanza, and I think that their work on those is top notch. At this point, I don't see how DF and Reality XP working together can miss on any aircraft they release. Reality XP gauges are incredible. The DF Baron is a worthwhile buy just to get the Sandel HSI (the version in the Baron is the best HSI for a flightsim aircraft, ever) and the GNS530.

I only hope that FS2Crew is developing an add-on for the DF A320. Is it too soon to dream about that?

There seems to be a number of aircraft that we are all really looking forward to getting our hands on (PMDG MD11, LVL-D 757, AXP A320, the CS757 final blocks if they are ever released) but with very few updates recently. Hopefully this is an indication that they are busy working away at it! But with all software, I think we can agree that we'd rather wait a bit longer so that the product we get is ready to go straight after we purchase it! Here's hoping the next few months will be filled with some excellent releases and our credit cards are struggling to keep up.

In the meantime I am having great fun bringing the PMDG 747 and LVL-D 767 into 9 Dragon's excellent Kaitak.  Smile

*My personal opinion is that the AXP team got blindsided by the problems involved in developing this project for FSX and their entire development for the A320 got derailed. My gut feeling is that there will be no FS9 version of this aircraft. Yeah, they said the FS9 version was coming out first, but it is looking less and less likely that will happen.

If the delays to this project have come from developing the program for FSX, why not release the FS9 version first as was originally planned and then concentrate on FSX? Why would they keep the FS9 version on the shelf just because they can't get the bugs out of the FSX version? None of this makes sense to me.

The PMDG MD-11 will certainly be something to look out for but I haven't seen a single preview of the Pratt & Whitney models, only the GE models. And given how badly they treated their customers for jacking up their prices by (literally) replacing the Dollar sign with a Euro sign in their prices, I'm not really feeling reassured despite what the website and their forums say. If I truely feel reassured, I may consider buying the PMDG MD-11.

A330Fan, I'd say I'm looking forward to them both equally and that whoever comes out first I'll buy and master before I buy the other. The MD-11 has become my favourite plane today after going through a book of mine that is a few years old but has lots of pictures of mainly DC-10s that look awesome, and as MD-11's are better than DC-10's yet still shares the same things I love about them.

Although, I'd love a good Airbus add-on, we have great things for nearly all of the Boeing's built in the last 10 years, we've got PMDG 737, 747, Lvl-D 767 and soon to be 757, and we currently have PSS 757 which I thoroughly enjoy. We have no good Airbuses, theres PSS A340 (A330) but the models don't quite look right and the VC is pathetic really.

I've tried the PMDG MD11, it's not bad at all.

There is another Airbus:

I've also tried this one too - and it's also going to be a really in-depth detailed sim. They are programming it in a very different way to everything else on the market. When I tested it, not everything was implemented yet, but the plane could be properly operated. I did a bit of the typical tests to check the FBW, and it did everything you'd expect it to.

How can you have tried it if it isn't released? Are you a betatester for PMDG?

I was at a Flight Sim developers conference (invitees only) in Seattle last year and PMDG had it running there. It wasn't fully complete, and most of the switches in the VC didn't work at that point, but the systems functionality was extremely impressive, as were the panels in general. The lighting functions were excellent.

On the afternoon before I left, I was fortunate to sit down with Michael Frantzeskakis who showed me how the thing worked (I'm very unfamiliar with MD11 systems). We also sat through a presentation from Robert Randazzo, Bill Grabowski and Michael Frantzeskakis who showed the whole thing in detail. (after which their custom built PC melted down). (oops).

I'm not actually a beta-tester with them, but a developer from a rival company (though we build a very different, much faster airliner - so we aren't in competition with them at all). That was the same place where I tried the other Airbus above.

Here are some photos of the MD11 in action:

The last one shows Michael Frantzeskakis in the conference hall, with a huge crowd watching on silently. These aren't the greatest photos in the world - but some of you might find them interesting, and you may see a few things that PMDG didn't show you yet.
