Flights Above Ireland

Thu Feb 22, 2007 1:59 am

I've recently moved to the lovely city of Galway in the west of Ireland and on clear days see tons of large aircraft pulling contrails across the sky. I dont have any binoculars with me and would love to know what airlines I'm seeing and where they are coming from/ going to. Does anyone know of any online radar or flight tracking type of software or such that can maybe help out?

Flightaware.com might be able to provide you with information on the flights that are heading to the USA (it's quite likely that a lot of what you see is London-USA traffic). The maps won't be correct since they can only track flights in US airspace, but the flight plans provided should tell you if a particular flight is crossing a waypoint/VOR station somewhere near you.
