An Idea For The Next (if Any) Msfs Scenery

Mon Apr 02, 2007 9:29 am

For those of us who think that the default MSFS scenery is sh!t, who download awesome add-ons, but who would like the transition to be better between the area the add-ons cover and the default scenery (eg between photorealistic ground textures and the default thing) - and assuming MS will release another FS:
-MS releases the base pack - what you get on the CD, with the usual scenery;
-They also offer an option of buying and perhaps downloading it online, and with this we can customize the scenery we want: we can request areas and airports that we want to see 100% realistic, and we can also specify the degree of "realisticness." They basically create scenery on-demand. And I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for this (within reason).

Thoughts?

This probably wouldn't work, the price the consumer (you) would have to pay to make this economical for Microsoft would diminish its worth in your eyes.

Lets say you want some obscure airport in the middle of nowhere.The person at Microsoft doesn't know what this airport is supposed to look for, they may have to go to that airport and take pictures of it, then they have to go back to the office and make it on the computers, so lets say it takes him 2 days including time at the airport and flights. Your looking at about $500 + for a scenery that you may be the only person to ever want and you only pay $20.

On the same page here. Leave add-ons to the developers that take the time to do them right. Microsoft certainly isn't going to pay anyone to release one or two quality sceneries a year (pretty standard output for most good developers).

I never buy sceneries anymore, my last one was airport by wilco for FS98.

20-40 dollars for an airport, but if I gloss over it for an hour and look at all the cool stuff it has, I start puking after the hour and tired of it. the value is lost cause so many good people offer freeware scenery and with so much out, the payware stuff doesnt make a difference except pay for it.

True, Google Earth is a miracle, but with a scenery file you most likely will want an AFCAD, how can you tell the difference between GA stands when you can only zoom in to about 1cm-10m. Also, with many the buildings have signs on the side of them, from above you sure can't see them.

That's why god created Windows Live Local! ;-p

Seriously though, 95% of people buying FS2004 aren't super geeks like us who like it to be 100% accurate all around the world - the majority will by FS and never touch another addon. We're a small minority to Microsoft really so MS really wouldn't touch it.

Plus having seen the quality of the "enhanced" aiports and areas they do (London, Atlanta, Tokyo etc) I'd sooner leave it to the addon developers if you get my drift!
