World Of AI?

Thu Apr 05, 2007 2:53 pm

Hi, i just have a general ? that i would like answered.

I just downloaded the southwest package for world of AI (Since it was first on the list) and then realized there were like 100 other airliners that all had to be downloaded individuallly and then installed.
I would really like to know if there is a file that installs all the airlines @ once. and if so where i could find it. Cuz downloading them all one by one would be a huge pain.

Plz dont tell me to go to world of ai and use their fourms cuz .
1. Thats rude, and not contributing to what i want to know
2. I do not want to go create and username....blah balh for just 1 ?
3. There are not as many users = longer response time..
thanks in advance

Also if any1 else knows of any other framerate packages (free and legal) that work good for FSX...give me a holler.
Noell, i know u sent me a pm...thankx for that bud

The big AI packages that are distributed for nada have enormous bandwidth costs they have to be financed. The only way they can do that is selling advertisement space, so you have to look at ads 100 times to get just 100 airlines, or 1000 times to get a somehow realistic traffic variety like MyTraffic or Ultimate Traffic.

All the schedules at PAI and WOAI have been tested to work individually. They never have been tested before release to work together - so you may come to the point many were before you that you install and install and suddenly all is stuck, because the airport you use has not been designed for the combination of schedules and aircrafts you have installed.

It's actually pretty easy if you've been installing them as they come out since day one... Wink

All their packages need to be installed manually. It doesn't take very long to install a package at all...just get the installer/packages and follow the instructions. It probably won't take you any longer than it would to extract the massive .zip file that would compose the nonexistent "all in one" package you asked about, and it's well worth it when you're done.

Just buy Ultimate traffic.

But If you want to go to the next level of AI then theres no other way than to do it airline by airline. Though i did find a good Mexico AI package that covers that whole countries in one easy install. I wish all countries were like that !!!!

WOA has better models, regular new releases, constantly updated schedules, and it's free. Why buy UT?

I have a huge 300MB package of about 40 or 50 airlines, they are all zipped up. IF anyone has a file hosting server ill happily upload it. All it requires is to be used with the installer, you just click on them all, go through the installer once and it will install every single one.

But you probably do not have permission from WOAI, the ai modelers, the repainters and flightplanners to distribute this?

The guys at WoAI have spent countless hours preparing/testing all the available packages. All you need to do if download a file and install it within a few clicks. There is no need to act so selfishly and create this thread for such a useless situation.

For other free packages, you could search the forums as there are zillions of other threads about AI traffic. You might also want to consider using the "check spelling" button.

I wouldn't recommend it. The WoAI Readme specifically states that the files are not to be uploaded to any site except Avsim or Flightsim, and even then, only by the original author.

I don't get bothered by comments much, but this one really rubs me the wrong way.

I'm a contributer to WoAI, as both a flightplanner and a painter. I support the project because they're bringing good, quality AI in an easy to use package. I also support them because they specifically approached me and asked permission. That's the reason that they're the only group that has permission to use my work. Comments like the one above are the kind that make painters and flightplanners bitter towards the flightsim world because they feel that they are taken for granted.

Back to subject, the WoAI packages are easy to use and easy to install. Just imagine how much it would take to install flightplans, plus 20 different paints for Southwest Airlines. In that time, you could easily download and install all 100+ WoAI packages.

Honestly i dont get the problem. Im not going to host it on a big website, its only for one or two people on here who needed it and requested if there is a big package i said there is where i added all that i downloaded to an archive on my hard-drive and to a disk incase my hard-drive crashes. Im not distributing for money or for a reputation, just purely to help other people out like you are by uploading them originally. I would personally have no problem at all anybody using anything i would make just because I'd be making it for personal use and just being kind and letting other people use it so i dont see why you think that it has to come from their website.

I have to say I totally agree with you. I remember a few years ago, I released a few repaints for some FS98 and FS2000 aircraft. I uploaded them to one website and within weeks they were all over the web. Did I complain? No - I designed them as freeware and was perfectly happy to see other people using them - in fact I saw it as a compliment that people had put my repaints up on other websites.

It seems that as more people get on the FS bandwagon, so more people have issues with the uploading of their material to the web. Surely as contributors to the freeware community distribution should be encouraged, provided the appropriate credit is given?

Define "huge pain" - because I've been rebuilding my AI with the WoAI packages, and each one, from download to fully installed, takes MAYBE 90 seconds. How exactly is that a huge pain when you consider it's free, and it's better than any pay program out there?

Just because it's freeware, it doesn't mean that the creators don't want to maintain a certain level of control of their material. Especially if one discovers a glaring mistake & needs to upload a fix for it, only to realise that instead of the two or three websites you originally uploaded it to, it's now spread to 10 different sites as well as numerous unofficial traffic packs.

It was people who didn't respect the author's wishes that eventually made Fernando Martinez (AI Fokker jet series as well as other models) become pretty withdrawn, ie. in other to get paintkits you had to send an email to him and so on.

You do have a point there. I sometimes read the read-me's (if i dont know how to install ther certain thing) and I've only eve r seen "No re-distribution for cash" or "no profit to be made by resale" and something to that effect. Never have i seen "no redistribution"

maybe you should look better. Restricted distribution has been the norm for years, at least since 2003 when sites started stealing freeware and selling it.

Maybe so, but doing it custom style like I did is much more satisfying than relying on others to do it for you!

FSPlanet.com is a big example for that. People, do NOT get ANYTHING from FSPlanet.com, they're the most notorious for stealing freeware and practically selling it, by forcing uses to pay a monthly fee for the access.

As for me, I'm using an AI that was custom build (with the MRAI installer or manually) and also consists of a a lot of WOAI packages. It took me weeks to get where I am, and the AI is still expanding whenever I see a flightplan I want to use. I even have a few retro AI, mostly PA, TW (not shown), FF (not shown) and IF (IF as in Interflug, the East German version of LH, only with much less luxury and even more restricted than LH).

Here a few pictures:

http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/998/germanwingsnebenklassennb7.jpg
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9397/pamitdeutschregistriertmk6.jpg
http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/879/klassenfeinduntereasyjebd8.jpg

Quite a contrast if you see an IF TU-134 next to a 4U A319 and 3 U2 A319s next to an IF IL-18 (all in SXF), plus the PA 732 near the LH 733 in TXL. Before 1990, this would have been unthinkable  Wink
