What's The Craziest Thing You've Done In FS?

Wed May 02, 2007 5:09 am

I btw own FS9 (old I know, but I prefer 9 running properly than 10 running slow as crap), I have a throttle/joystick and pedals to make it more realistic.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done in FS... regardless of what version you've had?

I think the craziest one I ever did was fly over Orange County (CA) at 1000 feet and Mach 1.2 in an F-104... (there are such strict noise-regulations in SNA) although I've done others. Flying into a crowded traffic pattern in a CV-880 on the barber pole, by the time I was making the turn onto final I was at 250 kts, and managed to make a normal Flaps 50-landing.*

*(From what I've been told on the tech/ops forum: 373 - 393 kts is the actual plane's barber pole, but the model/dynamics I had for some reason allowed me to go up to 400 kts... I've contacted the person who designed it and he's on it-- yes I plan to do the same high-speed approach again, but this time it would be more realistic.)

Any reason as to why Orange County? Perhaps you wanted to piss off the rich snobs living near SNA?

I think the craziest things ive ever done in FS are flying under bridges with the 747's, barrelrolls, landings 1/2 mile behind a departing plane, its goes on and on.

Flew the A380 under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Just last night seeing how close I could fly a DC3 to the surface of the water without crashing.

Define "crazy"...  Wink

-Fly the C172 around the world
-do a loop in a C172
-do barrel rolls in many A/C (and sometimes recover at 5ft AGL or so)
-t/o, then do a very steep turn (85 degrees) and land on the same runway, again in many A/C
-fly under bridges
-fly at mach .98 in a 737-500

I'm sure I could find some more- do any of the above count?  Silly

Well, the craziest thing I did today was land a B-52 at SEA. The catch was, I started out 12,000 feet directly over the runway, heading in the exact opposite direction. I waited a few seconds to give myself some space, then I cut the engines and deployed the spoilers to enter a very high-speed dive.

It's easy enough to estimate what descent angle you need, so I did just that, and upon completion of a single 180* turn to line me up with the runway heading, I was close enough to the glideslope.

Mind you I don't do this kind of stuff to challenge myself, it's really more of a split-second decision made out of partial boredom.  biggrin

The craziest thing I've done was fly a 717 up to 60 000 feet, cruised for about half an hour at M.94 then went into a dive and reached about M2.5.

I have screenshots too.

Flying inverted, dragging my tail through the waters of Pearl Harbor in a Thunderbirds F-16

Flying DL 738 downwind at MKE, did a diving turn-to-final

With a 717 at 5% fuel MKE, hit 330kts on the deck, then climbed at 60° until reaching 120 kts, and leveled out. Got me to 15,000 feet.

Took the Extra 300 to Istanbul, did an Immelman over one bridge, a loop around another, and then flew under the third low bridge. The low one was so close that my wheels were dragging through the water.

Flying a 734 between buildings in downtown Osaka

Shutting the engines off at 7000 feet, diving straight to the runway threshold, and scrubbing off all of the speed for landing.

Finally, one of my favorites, I had a Dash-8-Q400 trimmed so well, that I let go of the stick, and it practically landed itself. No autoland.

Try pulling a 737-700 into a 75° nose-up at full throttle (103% N1), doing a corkscrew turn to FL410, and then pushing that mother down at nearly 90° nose down.

I think my VSI broke after crossing FL180. I made it to 410 in about...4 minutes. Stalled and ripped my wings off at 9,400 feet and became a flying sausage until I crashed into the Pacific Ocean.

Another time, was totally bored and let the default 773 fly non-stop HNL-LHR on autopilot at 16X speed while I was watching TV. Thought I would run out of fuel but when it looked like I might make it, I slowed down and started gliding down. Was getting close but only had a couple hundred pounds remaining. Held the gear and flaps off until 1,000 agl and watched the fuel drop to zero just as I was crossing the threshold at the exact point where you would reatrd power anyway, so I made a perfect greaser dead stick landing, just the way I had it planned.  Wink

However; The plane was so slow that by the time my computer crashed, you had just landed your Cessna Caravan back at WSSS, so I spent just as much time on the flight flying the C172 2/3s of the way that you did flying all the way around the world in the Caravan.
