FSX On Athlon X2 Versus Opteron

Tue Jul 03, 2007 6:10 pm

I've recently upgraded my computer and moved to the dual core world with an Opteron 1212 processor. I'm still not happy with the FSX results. Would it have been better of me to spend the money on the Athlon X2 6000+? I have 2 gigs of ram and a 7200 rpm Seagate drive with a 16mb cache. Short of buying a Tyan board that supports quad Opteron processors what can I do to boost performance? Is there a difference in the X2 architecture versus the Opteron that makes one more conducive to gaming?

Check your video card and RAM. This may be the problem.

I have an Opteron 170 overclocked to 2.8 ghz and it runs FSX SP1 perfectly. Try overclocking if you have experience with that or, go with the Intel Core 2 Duo which is better than anything AMD has to offer today.
