Thinking about upgrading to a new computer to better run Vista and FSX - I've otherwise been a Dell customer because I grew up in Round Rock where they are HQ's, but recently I came across comparable Gateway FX530 rigs that offer significantly more bang for the buck - has anyone else noticed this and/or how can Dell be sleeping this bad?
For example, Gateway FX530's come with "Quad-Core" processors only, something that Dell wants about $400 more when I'm trying to price comparable rigs. Check it out for youself, but Gateway really appears to be sticking it Dell, I've priced out a comparable system and I'm easily $500 cheaper than the Dell XPS 710. I'm a little hesitant to try Gateway but wow, Dell is way off here are they not?! I know Dell offers good discounts for university students and even through my employer, but their still off by $100's; Gateway I believe offers University student discounts, too but you have to call their phone number and talk to someone.
FWIW, I'm just assuming that FSX should be able to run full spec on a system like this: Quad Core Q6600 (2.4GHx, 1066 Mhz FSB, and 8MB cache) on an Intel 975X chipset with 2GB memory, 1TB 7200 RPM Serial ATA II/300 HD 16MB cache + RAID 0 (2 500GB HD's), Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX w/ 768MB, and a Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card, and a 700W power supply!
