Need Help With Maycom Ar - 108

Wed Jul 11, 2007 4:30 am

I have just joined airliners.net and this is my first post. I have just bought a Maycom 108 scanner and cant seem to be able to pick very much up. The guide that came with the scanner is pretty hard to decipher and to be honest I'm completly lost. I know it stores 99 channels but I dont know what to store. I live about five miles from Belfast City Airport, so should I be picking up more. I would be grateful for ANY help.

Hi Jimbo1.

First off welcome to a.net.  Smile

You can try http://www.plane-mad.com/ for frequencies. Go to airport guides. Belfast City appears to have Tower on 119.20 and Approach on 130.75. You would be best to try Tower if you live 5 miles away. Approach might be harder to get. You might have to add a zero to the end of those for the AR 108. I have that scanner but I can't remember how the frequencies go. I'll have a look in the morning if you like.

Hope this helps a bit.

You should be able to hear some flights getting (or reading back, at least) their transatlantic clearances from Shanwick on...

127.65 MHz
123.95 MHz

There's a brief explanation of how the North Atlantic tracks work here:

Many thanks for your replies. I'v just found out that Belfast city airport is 122.825 and that Belfast International is 118.3. I also have being getting a lot on 128.5 which I have found out is the approach for Belfast International.
Are there any other frequencies I should be trying?, and can anyone explain what ATIS means.
Once again, many thanks
Jim

A NOTAM [Notice To Airmen] is filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of any hazards en route or at a specific location.

only 30? where?

It's normally 55 mins for the U.S., updated at the same time as METARS usually, or with significant weather changes.

Quoting Jimbo1 (Reply 6):

Also try 121.5mhz, which is the emergency frequency, though its very unlikely you'll ever hear anything.
