Looking For AA B747 Model Plane For A Friend

Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:19 pm

Hello. I Pilot friend of mine told me of a AA B747 with retractable landing gear he had as a kid, although he traded it for candy and to this day he regrets it. I told him of my model (Herpa) collection and offered to help look for this model. He said it Was an AA B747 with little gear that were to scale. It was a bigger plane (I'd say 1:200 or so, although he didnt know). Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like you might be talking about Ertl die-cast models. They do have retractable landing gears, the only ones I know of. I don't recall an AA 747, but I do have a UA 747, 727, TW 732, CO DC-9 (red meatball colors), and an AC 767. I'll see if I can't find some more.

Nah, that sounds like an AeroMini. They were well detailed for the time and had retractable landing gear.
They came out in the late 60's early 70's from Japan and there was an AA B747 model.
They are very hard to find in good condition today, but if you check Ebay or an antique shop, you might
run across one.

How right you are. My god those things are EXPENSIVE, though. It looks like they're fetching about $85. Some are more than that.

If you can find it for $85, jump on it. They usually go in the $150-$200 range.
