Just to know, is there a way to create a GA-ish airline? Ie, use GA A/C and being based at a (currently) non-commercial airport? And am I right in supposing I can change the airline's base?

I'm asking because I'm not too interested in running a large airline.

Not really, I mean you can use all the small a/c. One cool developement I just noticed is as time progresses, new aircraft types become available. I.e. 2003 just passed and A345/6 became available. Pretty cool I'm slowly getting bigger, I just sold off my EMB120 fleet and am about to order some more A32S.

I'm trying to register, but whenever I hit the "register" button when I'm done filling in the stuff an error message pops up and this is what it says.

Error! You either forgot to enter an airline code, or the code is not 3 characters long.
Sorry, either the airline name or airline code submitted are already in use, please try a different combination.

I put the codes in like this: NW/NWA (not the actual code I'm going to use, I just type in random ones) and for airline names, I've submitted some that I'm sure other people don't have/use. Any suggestions?

Loose the leased birds asap, leasing isn't really that helpful unless you get a very profitable route on a very low rate aircraft. And I'm speaking as a lessor.

Am I the only one getting this?

i am in a leasing alliance, i try to offer good beginners planes for competetive rates, such as dash-8-300 and saabs along with the embraer e-jets, usually for lease for no minimum lease time or 6 month(days real time) minimum lease with 20% discount.

Aer Éire
Based in Dublin DUB
DOP is currentley €2,398,846
Airline value is currentley €32,032,976
Fleet 16
Dornier 228-212__ 8 (leased)
Embraer ERJ-190LR__ 1 (leased)
B737-300__ 4 (leased) and considering more
B737-300ER__ 2 (leased)
ATR-72-500__ 1 (owned)
47 routes, all to Europe, plus Russia.

I like it, but I really want to get rid of my leased aircraft and get my hands on some of my own. The only way I can think of doing this is by leasing more aircraft, and open more routes, and encrease my DOP. Although this method may take some time.
Any other suggestions?

the leasing on those b737 must be very high. you dont need the range etc, so lease(or buy) some smaller jets like the embraer e-jets or the dornier 728 series!

Good thinking. I had a similar fleet to EISHN last year (game) and in the end i gradually got rid of all of my leased birds and replaced them. I got rid of anything I could and replaced them when I had the cash. Don't lease more birds as that means greater leasing costs. I could do you a good deald on some 736s if you want to lease more but I advise against it. PM 955 if you are interested. I could even sell you them for a low price as they don't really bring me much.

Well actually I'm using them on a number of long routes such as DME, IST, PFO DBV, SJJ, and TLV. I'm alos using four E-190s, which I quite like. I returned all of my Dornier 228-212s, and replaced them with a fewer number of aircraft. I replaced them with a mix of 733 and 190s, and encreased by DOPconsiderably.
Infact my DOP is now twice what it was yesterday, or what I had mentioned above. I alos facilitated this through leasing two new plnes, but most of it came from the replacing of the Dorniers.

if you rent, do the math. often its cheaper and better to lease if the rates are OK. usually the rents for huge planes are in the 10s of millions, or about 4-5m airbus and boeing narrow aisles.
thats not too easy to make up, but looking at an embraer or dornier jet, where rents can be as low as 1-2m, you can make that back fast. just remember not to rent any that come with LONG minimum leases, more than 6 months is not ok.

I got hit with a $200mil bill last night, and ended up being -$57mil in debt, but byt the mrning I was up 16mil. I presume it's from all the aircraft that I've leased?
But before the bill, I had placed an order for 1 A320 CFM, due tomorrow night, and will use it to slowly replce my 733 fleet.

But before the bill, I had placed an order for 1 A320 CFM, due tomorrow night, and will use it to slowly replce my 733 fleet.

here is some guidelines: a month takes 24 days, so if a plane gives a daily profit of say, 250k$, it will make 24*250k per day, so 6m $$.
generally, get rid of the a320+b733s due to the game "saturation". you can easily get a "game month aka real day" income of over 100m if you stick to smaller planes and fly alot of connections to small airports with 500-1m passengers with FEW connections but higher prices.
do not try to get income via route frequency, try to get them via various airports. that way you diversify your schedule and also have a better return on your investment.

i suggest using in the current time of game, to use dash-8, saab340 and small jets like embraer 170/190 (both LR!) or the dornier 728-100 for short hop and -200 for long hop.
i usually advertise the dorniers for 1.3m per month lease, and i make about 500k per day on each plane with diversified routes and low frequency on each destination. with this, it only takes my customers 3 of 24h to fly for paying the plane and the other 21h are profit in their pockets.
such high returns vs leaserate are just not possible to get on the rather expensive planes such as airbus 320 series or 737, who cost 3-4x as much as the dorniers, so their leaserate is also alot higher, whilst the profit is not that much higher due to saturation.

here is an example of one of my customers who leased one of the dornier 728-200:

On leasing contract.
Lease Rate: €1,350,000
Airline Leased to: Southern Comfort

Time Left on Contract: 0 Months
Route Info:
View Dallas Love Orlando 2 100% €135,704 Close
View Dallas Love San Francisco 1 100% €160,857 Close
View Dallas Love Salt Lake City 1 100% €106,881 Close

i.e. he pays 1.35m per month lease (24d) for the plane and in the same time he makes about 9.6m income, so that leaves him with with about 7.8m in the pocket after gate/slot cost.

do not do the big plane leases, say you rent a 777 for ~16m, you will usually, due to saturation in long range market, make about 20m income per day, but more expensive slots and hell of more expensive plane, hence you end up making money for sombody else, whilst having little money for yourself.

i am ALFC - Aircraft Lease Finance Corporation in game, i will give rent discount to airliners.net members of 5%!  Wink

My plan was to take u p a large percentage of the air market in which I've set up. and I've succeeded. I know own 20% of the market at DUB. I've grown to over 70 routes in a week. Mostly in Europe, but with some to the Middle East, Africa, Iceland, and the US. But because I have about 27 leased aircraft (I know, that's pretty damn bad) I'm getting hit with these heavy bills. I go to bad with about 100mil in cash, and wake up with about -7mil, and then slowly climb my way up during the day. At the moment, I'm on 10mil, with a value of 205mil. Now, I've placed orders for 2 A320s, with the first to be delivered tonight, and the next tomorrow night. I'll use them to replace my 733 on the most profitable route operated by my 733s. Then, I'll get some small props. The problem with investing in some props, is that I'm currentley engeged in a price war with a number of airlines, and need the capacity and the ability to have to the low fares and make a return on the route.
Out of interest, is Cheap Seats, or JC Airlines out there?
Cheap seats had extended his/her hand of friendship, and wanted to do some price fixing. I'm all for it, but then he turned and started attacking my routes and fares. If you're there, I just wanna say hi!

Likewise! Why do you want it? We could always trade routes if you want it so bad. I can handle $1 routes with 50+ million DOP. Big grin

i feel like i have made some bad moves on this game, i am making $2,500,000 per "day", leased many aircraft, i would end up paying 10 million at the start of every "month" for leasing and gate renting, and go into the negative numbers, is this a normal thing to happen? will this plan come back and bite me in the behind? i hope not, does this happen to anyone else?

I can't sign up. I keep getting error messages,"Sorry but the airline / airline code is already taken". I've tried 15-20 random complex codes. When's the next reset?
