UPDATE: FSX Service Pack 2 is going to be included with the Acceleration expansion pack, or available as a stand-alone download after the release, before Christmas 2007:

Also...according to this guy and several other Microsoft sources, they are working on FS11...

Oh god, I guess we can now expect a whole raft of threads about FS11. Can someone call Matron for me?

^^These shots are from a beta tester for FS and are supposed to be featuring DX10 and FSX Acceleration. To be honest, it's quite disappointing to say the least, so I'll stick with FS9 for the time being.

FS11 already? I just got a $2,100 computer so I can run FSX. I dont even wanna think about FS11 rite now as I have FSx working pretty well for me. I'd like to increase some settings, but I'll wait and see what SP2 will do for me before investing in a better graphics card and such. I'd like to see the frame rate count on ALL those pics... and 9fps over NYC is pretty nasty if u ask me...

FS11 will probably be FS10 with some major and needed updates...considering how even the best machines can't seem to get real framerates with FSX.

Maybe SP2 will increase framerates?

SP1 gave me an amazing FPS increase of about 10 from 15 to 25fps flying along the DTW area. I can even use anti-ailasing without losing more than 3 to 4 fps. I'm expecting the same from SP2... hopefully

On the up side, I'll be wrapped if they have fixed the Bloom lag (about 6 to 8 fps hit on my machine) and some of the autogen batching. On the down side I feel as if I have been taken for a rather expensive ride. If I can't get FSX with SP2 to work on a brand new quad core DX10 machine to a satisfactory level, what chance have I got with FS XI?

I think that there are some basic improvements that could have been done regarding performance that, I assume, have not been looked at. For instance, rather than cutting down on the total number of Autogen objects as in the current options, how about an option to reduce the types (like you can do with some 3P mods - but without the non-reversible affects of hard-coding changes to config files).

I think that MS and Aces Studios are heading into very dangerous territory with this franchise. If they do not release the next FS with all the tricks and eye candy that they promised with at minimum the performance that FSX under SP2 and DX10 is apparently going to offer, I think we may see the end of FS (at least under the MS branding).

Barring the eye-candy aspect, how many more versions are serious simmers going to continue putting up with the sloppy ATC and AI logic? I was hoping for an overall leap forward with FSX, but instead I have built a great machine to play Bioshock, Crysis, Call of Duty, etc...

FS11 might work with quad cores...

I sure hope so. We need another player is this, someone who can offer us what we want, make it work, keep it cheap and make it easy for developers. And it needs to work on Mac OS X..

They'll accept as many as it takes, although many have rejected FSX because it just isn't good enough, but when FS9 starts to die, we'll all be moving over and saying goodbye. Unfortunately serious simmers don't have a choice.....

FSX Acceleration is now available for pre-order on Simmarket.

http://secure.simmarket.com/default.php

OK, I don't know why, but now I found another reason why I'm sticking with FS9. Not only is FSX deficient and damn expensive, it's expansion pack costs far too much. It almost costs the same as a fresh copy of FSX Deluxe. US$53.22 US$53.22 for the German version, US$47.25 for the English version (without VAT, prices converted to US Dollars from
Euros), or US$63.33 for the German version, US$56.23 for the English version (with VAT, prices converted to US Dollars from Euros). And that's just on Simmarket. Who knows how much it costs on other sites, like Aerosoft or Justflight, or wherever else FS is sold.

Thanks, but no thanks. Reason more for me to stick with FS9 for the time being.

FS9 all the way i'd say, it has all i need until someone decides to make a really realistic ATC and AI interface.

As far as i'm concerned that's FS's only shortcoming.
