Flight Time Adding...

Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:26 pm

Searched for this subject on a.net, don't believe it's been discussed before...
So here goes,
Some time ago I decided to start copying my logbook into excel, it all went fine by adding hours till 24 hours flight time... I read in the help menu that excel cannot calculate times more than 24 hours, so I've got a big problem on my hands, I know that at some point there'll be a mistake that'll ruin everything, so I'd love to know if you guys know a time adding tool, like you can add 2 hr 54 min to 78 hr 21 min.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Quoting Dambuster (Thread starter):

I use an excel file for my real logbook. It is true it cannot calculate above 24 hours, but with a trick it can: just set it to 00:00:00 and then to the options somewhere it should say: 99:99:99. Then it can add above 24 hours.
So my excel file says for a 3hrs30min flight: 03:30:00. And all added up: 3256:46:00. You always have the last two digits with you although you don't need them, but that makes it possible to add above 24 hours.

That sounds great, but I don't quite understand what I have to set to 00:00:00, like is the time format or something else? Where do I got to exactly, (which menu)? I have MS office 2007 if it helps...
Thanks very much for your help! Really made my happy to know it's possible with excel, thanks for the other tool as well Staralliance, I'll have a look at it too.  Smile

The problem is I don't use MS2007, I use Staroffice and I use a German version  Wink

but i try to tell you where it is. There is one thing called FORMAT (German word) it is left of EXTRAS and there is a feature where you can change the preferences of this square where your mouse is in. In German it is called ZELLE (Cell). And you can adjust it in there. Then there you can change the type of how your times will be shown. You can chose between: percent, currency etc etc. There must be one thing called TIMES. Then on the right of it you have to shouce 876613:37:46 (that's the way it is called at StarOffice). And then you enter your flight time in 6 digits 02:45:00, means 2 hrs 45 mins 00 seconds. The seconds doesn't count, but you have to put them in to make it possible to go above the 24hrs etc.... then hit OK and it should be fine...

Sorry, this is the best I can explain it with my version...
