View From 2D Cockpit In FSX

Tue Feb 03, 2009 4:32 pm

The question is a bit a silly one but nevertheless: I recently downloaded the demo version of FSX to make up my mind if I should buy it in the end. However, I have a widescreen on my computer and FSX just linearly scales up the 2D cockpit panel resulting in a poor view "over" the panel. This results in me crashing all the time as while trying to make a visual approach, in the default CRJ, for instance, I need to have way too much downward pitch to see the runway resulting in a sinkrate driving me right into the ocean off Maho beach...
Does anyone have the same problem and has a solutioin, is it just me being unable to fly ( Wink)?
Thanks!

That is the main reason why I don't use FSX. I bought it, found out the same as you did and hardly ever used it since then. You cannot "move" the seat up to see above the glareshield. Here you have to use another view for the approaches and landings.
This is something which sucks BIG times on FSX!!!! FS lost the reality here...

Won't Shift+Q or Ctrl+Shift+Q adjust the height over the panel?

In FS9 it did it perfectly, but in FSX only a little bit. Not enough to actually see the runway like you did that in FS9...

Yes you can!

Yes. It works differently from FS9. It's progressive - the longer you hold the keys down the faster it moves. There should be a "sticky" thread for this.  Smile

Thanks for your replies  Smile. Guess the search function screwed me up (once again...).

I've just checked again and it still works for me on the default C-172 and on the PMDG 744X.

Perhaps your keys have been re-assigned. Check the assignments in Settings->Controls->Buttons/Keys. The crucial settings are "View (always pan down)" and "View (always pan up)".

Yup, that makes it work. Thanks for the help here.

But now FSX crashes every once in a while... Cannot do a longer flight than 10 minuts or it crashed to desktop...

Ah well.., whatever.

Ah, well... you didn't say you wanted to adjust your view and have FS run for more than 10 minutes.  duck

Is that since you sorted the key assignments or was the problem there before? I don't see how the key assignments would cause a crash.

Yeah, that would be too much to dream of.

It happened yesterday for the first time ever on FSX. I was departing PHNL on my way to NZAA (LH Cargo MD11F of course) and the first time it CTD at 10,000 feet the 2nd try 20 minutes after departure. Without doing anything...

Anyway, I am using FS9 and PMDG MD11 and PMDG 744  Wink
