Pmdg MD-11 For FSX Question

Thu Apr 29, 2010 5:37 am

OK - so I've been flying the awesome MD-11 for awhile on FSX. I got a new computer (with Windows 7 64-bit) and decided I would put the MD-11 on the new computer. I did a clean install of FSX, along with SP1 and then Acceleration. I installed the MD-11 with no problems. Even installed the latest update for the MD-11 from PMDG. I went to start FSX and everything was normal. I selected the MD-11 to go flying, and FSX experienced a fatal error and restarted. PMDG told me that my DLL.xml file has been corrupted and to do a big, long list off stuff (do this, uninstall that, delete this, rename that). I didn't think that installing the MD-11 on a clean install of FSX would corrupt anything.

I told him that I was running Windows 7 64-bit, and then he said to download this C++2008 redistributable file and that should fix it. Well, it did not. So, what do I try next? Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

p.s. - I should mention that FSX runs beautifully as long as I don't select the MD-11

What happens if you select another aircraft, preferrably a PMDG add on and then change to the MD-11? If you have another PGMD add on aircraft, check the file structure and look for differences. Maybe you'll find the error.

Does the MD-11 preview OK when you are creating a flight?

The only other PMDG airplanes I have are the 737 and Beech 1900 for FS9. I do have the J41 for FSX but have not installed it on the new machine yet. I want to straighten out the MD-11 first.

No, that's precisely when it has the fatal error...right when I'm waiting for the airplane to appear and spin around on the "create a flight" screen.

Maybe try one of those and see if you have the same issue. I'd go for the 7-three as it is already an FSX ship.

THEBATMAN

I would install the J41 and if that works OK try again with the MD11.
If it crashes once more I would go back to PMDG.

NOPE. PMDG is telling me to install all of these C++2008 x86 and x64 redistributable files (they're .exe files and I have NO idea what they do or where they are being installed) , and it's really getting to the point where I'm just going to un-install the stupid thing and go back to flying the Level-D 767. At least the 767 hasn't given me any headaches.

Holy migrane Batman!
Most likely they are necessary to open texture files. The .exe files may be installation programs. If there are any .dll files, install them in the windows system32 folder but do a restore point first.

There was another thread about a problem with the pmdg MD-11 but I don't see it anymore.

TheBatman

That's not good, the installation should go 'out of the box'

I would check on their forums for help. Do other suppliers aircraft install OK?

Oh yeah...I've got stuff from Wilco, Flight1, Level-D, Captain Sim...the only one that is giving me a headache is that MD-11.

I would follow the instructions of PMDG and their support team in my experience they have been able to resolve any issue I have had with their products (I have had only one major issue which was resolved straight away when I followed their advice).

If you are having ongoing issues I would contact PMDG – tell them what’s going on and I am sure they will help as much as they can.

Another place where you can get support is www.avsim.com – this is a flight simulator (and train sim) website and they have a great (free) forum/s for pretty much anything to do with FS ranging from third party aircraft to the computer hardware or software to PMDG etc.

I would not give up on PMDG, their aircraft animation and systems are so much better than anyone else its well worth the effort (and cost!). I have purchased most ‘passenger’ airliners that will work with FSX and PMDG’s MD11 is by far the best – Level D’s B763ER is okay, but does not come close.

Can’t wait for PMDG’s B73NG and B777’s!

If you are still stuck drop me a personal message and I may have a email addy of someone who can help

Hi all

Yes, agree with Kimberly.

If you have issues PMDG will help you out. Looking forward to seeing some MD11 screenies!

Well everybody - I got it to work. I installed FSUIPC v.4.60 and voila - it works!! Thank you all very much for your help / advice / suggestions. Take a look over at "FS Screenshots Vol.5 Tri-Jets" for the screen shots.

Thanks again
