FS/X-Plane Screenshots V.6 - QUAD-Jet Edition!

Sat Jun 05, 2010 11:56 pm

Well once again, the last thread was getting a bit lengthy due to all of the FANTASTIC participation from all of you guys and gals. I figured since the last one was tri-jets, we would continue on with four-holers...ok - here we go!

What better airplane to start off the quad-jets than the 747-8i

That is sooo awesome! I'm doing a POSKY/PMDG 747 merge as soon as they release their 747-8, since I can't run FSX on my PC! I love that thing.

It's freeware, cannot remember where but try http://www.fs-freeware.net/flight-si...ator-downloads/Flight-Simulator-X/

Have to agree, it's a stunning model. The paintwork is just fantastic hence the two screenshots. Actually looks like a photograph.

I felt like flying something Russian today (still a quad-jet  ), so I hopped in an AN-124 and buzzed around Moscow...

OK- I say that if it's a jet-PROP, it qualifies as at quad-jet. Plus, the C-130 is just plain bad-@$$. So, I'm attempting to land the Herc on an aircraft carrier just outside of KSAN.

That sucker musta had one badass tailhook!

Well.... I actually requested the BAe146 on deck. The AN-124 request was an IM I sent you 3 days ago!
Frankly, I got tired of waiting for you Batman, so I decided to do it myself !

My plan was to beat Batman to the draw with a carrier based 7-four shot. First, I needed a Carrier so I logged on to FSfreeware and downloaded a carrier. While I was there, also downloaded an FS scenery texture enhancement.
I figured KLGB and the Long Beach Naval Shipyards would be a good place to find a carrier. I flew all over from LB to San Pedro and couldn't' find a single carrier! Then I set the ships and ferries slider to the max and reset the time and day and voila! So now, I'm landing an AS-350B-2, the carrier isn't moving, piece of cake, right? Nope. You can't land on an Ai carrier. At least not this one. The aircraft goes right through it. I know, I know, most of you are thinking "wadda dumbass" but I haven't been all the way around the FS block yet.

Even dumber, I thought maybe I could do it using the mission where you land the R-22 on a carrier. Stooopid ! You can't change aircraft in a mission.

On a positive note, sometimes screwing up can be entertaining. I must have botched the texture enhancement installation. Ever seen a Nimitz class lawnmower?

To be fair neither the aircraft nor the terminal are history in their own right. T1 is still in operation at MNL and A346 D-AIHA is still in service with LH...but LH no longer operate to MNL.

You can, there's an option for it on the Missions page.

Change aircraft within mission. or something like that. The only thing is that you won't get a reward in missions when you activate this capability.

All these carrier landings are awesome. Reminds me of when an aircraft carrier rescued a disabled B-52 (so I think the story goes anyhow)...

But, you're shots really made me want to post a non-4holer and go hot-tubbing on a sea cruiser.

Looks like a few people even gathered on deck for my arrival! Unfortunately, the entire ship turned out to be a huge hologram, and I just ended up sinking right through the deck, forcing me to wave off the approach.

To amend my multiple-holed single, here's a very graceful quad.

This chocolate covered coconut contrail looks soooo tasty on a hot summer's eve! (The FS fridge was set for Jan @ -10C, so contrails before 10,000ft.)

Instead of trying to find a carrier for FS9, I found a BAe-146 for FSX! So, here it is...
I said it once and I'll say it again....Batman, you're awesome!

Ooooh. Nice one. Cpd will enjoy that shot. He's a big time Concorde lover. I wonder how he is. Haven't seen him post in a month or more.

The very first post on this thread was of a 747-8i that I got from flightsim, but now POSKY has released their version of the same airplane...

All these carrier landings are awesome. Reminds me of when an aircraft carrier rescued a disabled B-52 (so I think the story goes anyhow)...

I found the original photo in another forum:

And for a second I just thought it was real

Don't knock it. Puts food on the table. Just like I thank General Motors for my bread.
Actually, it looks more like volcanic ash ingestion.

Is that part of an LAX scenery add-on?

Yes I did! I wish you would let me buy you some Gnocchi @ Vivo on Randolph St. next week. 4th of July fireworks off Navy Pier, Taste of Chicago, White Sox vs. Angels. I'm there!
Request permission to fwd. those shots to a former UAL DC-8 skipper friend.
