1:500 And 600 Scale Models?

Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:37 pm

Hey Fellows, I plan to travel to the US in about a weeks time and I was wondering if any of you guys happens to know about a airliners scale models store in the Washington DC/Virginia area, where I can get 1:500 & 1:600 scale models from Herpa, Gemini Jets etc?? I have been researching about it but all i get is online stores. So if any of you guys happens to live in the area and can guide me to a real store in that area where I should be able to get these? it would be a huge help.

Thanks

This should be under aviation hobby,

I don't think anyone builds 1:600 anymore. There used to be a company called Schabak that built the 1:600 models. Herpa, Gemini and Dragonwings build 1:400 and 1:500. There is a store near Miami Airport that sells Gemini I think.

Gemini and Dragon only make 1:400, 1:200, and 1:250. Herpa is about the only 1:500 manufacturer, there are a couple of other small companies but not ones that you typically find in a store. As for 1:600 they are pretty much non-existant.

They used to sell them in the Air & Space museum gift shop. Not sure if you'll still find 1:600 at all (sounds like not), but I bet they still have some models.

There is a major online store in MIA, which is the one I use. PM if you want the details. Your best bet for prices and selection, is an online store. Most will deliver within two to three days without using any expensive express delivery option. If you are going to be in the US for more than a few days you can have them delivered to your hotel or wherever other place you are staying.

I think Herpa and Schabak still do, or at least they recently did.

Schabak models are not that good IMHO. Herpa and Gemini are much better.
