How Do You Make Those FAA Airport Diagrams?

Wed Aug 18, 2010 6:51 pm

Hi all!

I want to draw some fantasy airports (sometimes I shock myself with the nerdy things I like). We all know about those nice diagrams on the FAA website. What software do they use to make them?

Thanks,

I very much doubt that you'd be able to get hold of "the program" that makes them... I'm guessing that its custom built for the purpose

Chances are the FAA uses proprietary software to create the diagrams, or it's entirely possible it's a mix between CAD software and Adobe Illustrator.

Your best bet is to find a copy of Adobe Illustrator or something like it where you can work in vector format.

You could also find AFCAD, which is a program used to design/edit airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

I'd say your best bet is Google Sketchup. You can make them 3D that way too.
