Great Airliners Series DC-8 (book) Questions

Wed Nov 17, 2010 9:06 pm

Since I haven't found the answer to my questions in several book reviews of Douglas DC-8, Great Airliners Series, Volume 2 by Terry Waddington...for anyone who has the book or has seen the contents of the book between the covers...

Does the book give ample space in text and photos to the -10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 variants of the 'standard' DC-8, with a significant selection of photos taken in the 1960s? ...or is it, like some other books on first-generation jetliners, mostly devoted to DC-8s in the 1980s-90s, past their prime as pax aircraft?

Thank you for any help in answering my questions.

I can understand your concern, as a lot of "new" books about "old" aircraft are mostly pictures and anecdotes of those aircraft as they appear now, and not as they were then.

You will be happy to note that this book devotes about 75% up to the point, "the end of the line", so there are pictures and brochures up to the 1960s. Yes, there are pictures of existing airframes, flying as freighters, but only a few.

I like this book, as it contains the only known picture of CF-TIW. (long story).
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

Tango-Bravo ,Yes it covers to a certain degree the early versions of the DC-8 ,But may i suggest you try to get hold of a copy of Douglas DC-8 A pictorial history by George W Cearly Jr. all the photos except those on the front and back cover are in black and white and the book gives a lot of detail and photos of the 10,20,30,40, and 50 series DC-8s

Hope this is of some help.
