Another New FS/Xplane Screenshot Thread! Part 2

Sun Feb 06, 2011 8:18 am

The old screenshot thread is taking way too long to load on my computer, perhaps it's time for the next volume.

Alright - the temptation to paint the sister plane to the DB Regio one I did previously was too great:

Enjoy!   I do need to flip around the 747-8i text on the side of the plane still.   I'll release the two of them when they are finished.

Gotta love the default traffic from Microsoft, errr, maybe not. Thats why I removed it from my setup and started my obsession with adding in realistic traffic into my sim.

I am finally leaving the Russian Far East and flying west towards Moscow, where I have spent a lot of time adding in adding in traffic to the skies. Today was a short flight of a little over 700 miles from the city of Chulman to Bratsk and my winged chariot, the Il-96 freeware model from Samdim.

Thats why I removed it from my setup and started my obsession with adding in realistic traffic into my sim.

I had My Traffic X for a while, but I didn't reinstall it. Didn't really like it that much.   I'm hoping maybe someone will come up with a way of configuring FSX so it'll show up actual real airline/aircraft traffic that is actually flying around.

So if the SQ241 does a go-around due to "not stabilised", you'd see that in the sim too. That'd be awesome. Though even just real world schedules that are up to date would be fantastic. So when I go to Sydney, I won't see 3 or 4 QF A380s parked side by side at the gates, I'll just see the 1 QF A380, with maybe one other one parked at the jetbase.

And if I'm waiting at around 4:45pm, I'll see "Qantas 31 Super" takeoff, followed by "Speedbird 10 Heavy", and at 7:40pm, I'll see EK's "super" arrive from New Zealand, etc.

That would be a beast of a system to pull that off, and maybe quite expensive. Back whenI used Ultimate Traffic, they did two updates a year, usually Spring and Fall if I remember right. Now I do my traffic all by hand, using TTools or MRAI to install my plans, with an occasional World of AI package here and there.

Yeah, I know - pretty neat of TuiFly to do that! And make quite a few dollars at the same time advertising the Deutsche Bahn. Honestly though, ICE's need no advertising - compared to the rubbish old belching smokey XPT trains over here in Australia (they are a derivate of British HST Class 43), the ICE's are beautiful modern, sleek machines. Even the old ICE1 is amazing compared to the belching old beasts we have. Ours still have the Paxman Valenta engines too...

I remember that Krupp bidded on one of the Australian HST projects - would have offered track and ICE, but they lost out to TGV's consortium. Which ended up going nowhere at all.   We have no other choice than to fly from city to city, the trains are far too slow. Often they do no better than 130km/h. It's a crying shame.

Thanks! My flying time is on hold now. While I added in passenger service traffic to my sim, I completely forgot about those loud and smokey cargo freighters. I am now working on adding in An-12 and Il-76 freighters before I fly again.

Speaking of loud and smokey, while not a cargo hauler, the Tu-134 is both loud and smokey. I downloaded the Tu-134A-3 model from SCS and am currently trying to learn how to fly it. I haven't got it off of the ground yet, just did a taxi test. Problem here is that the manual is in Russian and I know zero Russian, other than nyet. When you load the plane in,it is cold and dark, so you have to go through the startup process. I found an English quick start guide, and managed to get it going, or so I thought, I only had one engine running. With my headphones on, the engine noise is so loud!

Nice! you are showing us all those unexplored remote Russian towns and Cities, great series.

Thanks! Maybe someday I will fly to some of the European cities posted, but I have so many places that I want to fly to in Russia and the CIS countries first.

There's the sun...about three minutes after takeoff we were already at 10,000 feet

I love the atmosphere in this shot!

After a failed attempt yesterday, I was finally able to fly. I installed some scenery for Tolmachevo Airport (OVB/UNNT) and flew there but FS9 crashed back to desktop at 20 miles out, frustrating. Even more frustrating when it crashed in daylight hours but in the evening, it was OK. Seems that when I installed it, I missed some textures that was causing the crash. So today I flew in my trusty An-148 from KJA to OVB.

The other airport, Yemelyanovo Airport (UNKL) is where the main passenger service is...but not today, no pax sercvice here with me at this hour.

An amazing freeware airport

The scenery for OVB is amazing, simply amazing. One of my favorite freeware airports out there, next to the release of BOS. It was a bit heavy on my frames, I keep my frame rate locked at 24 and at times it dropped to 10, but then againI have an older computer (3ghz PentiumD with 4GB ram and a 512MB Nvidia 8800 card). I am not sure where I am flying next, so I might do some touch and gos here until I decide.

Wow...That really is.

Yesterday I tried to fly a Hughes Airwest DC-9 SJC-BUR, but apparently I forgot to adjust the weight and fuel load and ended up overrunning the runway...So instead of trying again (I might when I get back from DCA, though), I decided to let the Jazz bug bite again and took Juliet Zulu Zulu YYC-YMM:

UltimateDelta, is that a payware CRJ or a freeware one with a merged VC? I know Posky has a CR2 as well as the CR7 and CR9 but have not flown them. I flew their BBJ and hated it, it was like I was driving an Italian sports car as even though I was fully loaded with fuel, it was racing down the runway at over 180k and when I pulled back on the stick, it took off like a F16 fighter jet and had a very steep climb. Only other Posky aircraft I flew before was their B752 and I liked that one.

It's the POSKY CRJ with it's default VC, but it has an updated panel.cfg and some other things so the gauges work (but then uses the default CRJ-700 2D panel- might be on AVSIM or some other site). I actually have both the -700 and -900, and they fly much better than some of their other aircraft.

Ah, if I had FSX installed, I could use that, but since I have FS9, I cannot.

Since I am still not sure about my next destination, today I flew around the three airports of Novosibirsk. I had plans to document the entire flight, from Tolmachevo to Severny to Yeltsovka. All airports are in about a 15 mile block in the city. Since it was a short set of flights, I took the AFG King Air 300 up for a spin. I flew from Tolmachevo to Severny, taking some nice shots along the way, or so I thought. Once I landed and parked and shut down the engines and electrical system, I looked at my screenshot folder...empty. I forgot to start the screenshot program up. So we join the series in progress, a few hours later after I returned home from lunch with a friend.

And then the power in my house went out for a split second and my computer turned off. So this is the end of the flight. Not a good day of flying. I had their 737-800 for FS2004 - and it was not possible to land on RWY13 at Kai-tak with it, it simply wouldn't bank/turn fast enough. It had extremely heavy handling qualities. So heavy that you wondered if you might be turning the Seawise Giant, rather than a 737-800.

Got the Tom Ruth 727, I telly ou what, considering its freeware it is absolutly fantastic...

I haven't flown that one, but I do love his models for the An-124 and the An-225. The An-225 is in my plans, I think once I leave Russia, I am going to do some flying in Ukraine. I am now adding in AI for Ukraine to spot when I am flying there. Is his B727 for FS9 also? I do have the Vistaliner's model and I do like flying that from time to time, usually I use it to recreate my last B727 flight back in the 2000s when I flew it with UA from ORD-FLL-ORD.

You both are aware POSKY had an "easy" configuration if you felt the 73's were too difficult to fly in order to address this issue?

Rather than offering "easy" or "hard" configurations, why don't they just offer a single configuration called "realistic"?

It wasn't difficult, it was just totally unrealistic. It's academic now, Posky is finished.

By the way, some time ago, I did a repaint of a Qantas Freight colour scheme, applied to a fictional 747-8F. Well, yesterday the real plane was delivered to Qantas - and this is it:

It was exactly as they said, no kangaroo on the tail. The plane is the former JA603F of ANA Cargo.

Today, I'm going to do another Qantas colour scheme, for a B747. It's based on the colours of a real one.

Ah, if I had FSX installed, I could use that, but since I have FS9, I cannot.

Yeah, but I think it would work with whatever was in the original panel.cfg. I've seen screenshots from FS9 with working screens in the VC, so there shouldn't need to be any changes.

Climbing out

Descending over Martinique, you can see FDF peeking behind a cloud.

Eek those mountains of Dominica scared me....

OHHHHHHHHHH VIASA!!! And the A300!! the same I flew in back in the 90s from CCS-PMV!

Viasa is sorely missed, I always say if I was a millionaire, I will buy me own ACJ and paint it up in the VA livery

Well, I took off (no pun intended) on vacation for awhile but now I'm back...So since I found some unique repaints for a C-17, I guess we'll take that from LAX-MEM. (FedEx flies lots of C-17's, right?)

I did this one from scratch tonight:

Congrats Boeing on the launch of your beautiful new B747-8 Intercontinental!

I'm flying Cairns to Sydney at the moment, with a Boree4.16B approach onto RWY16R at Sydney airport.
