FS/X-Plane Summer 2011 Screenshot Thread #7

Thu Jul 07, 2011 8:48 pm

Here we go with the 7th screenshot thread this year, since the last one was giving me problems again

Starting things off with a few 4th of July shots-

Last night I finally flew for the first time in a long time. Took the Project Airbus A320 up for a spin between ORD-SFO as Virgin America. My landing at SFO was fun, ATC changed runways but never told me. As I was landing, a UA B757 took off from the other end, rocketing over me. Thankfully the passengers do not have that view.   In addition, my AFCAD for SFO is horrible...or I am going to blame the AFCAD for this, ATC handed me over to SFO tower (as well as other AI aircraft) at nearly 60 miles out! Need to look for a better AFCAD.

One thing that I noticed during flight was that my lights were not working. A quick scan of my aircraft.cfg file revealed that I was missing a bracket around the LIGHTS entry. Not sure how I managed to muck that up or not notice it earlier, I have quite a few other textures installed and flights completed with this model. Oh well.

My contribution is the new Qantas colour scheme that is on VH-OJO in the real world, supporting the Qantas Wallabies.:D

Cool colour scheme. It's in Johannesburg at the moment, or should be soon. And should be back tomorrow in Sydney as QF64 (in case anyone wants to see the real thing).

As is normal, I paint it onto the B747-8i.   It's pictured here in Melbourne. I had 155kt head-winds the whole journey from Sydney to Melbourne. I'll return to Sydney shortly. Should be a fast journey.

The Swiss Maniac is back!

Finally managed to set up FS on my new computer, took me ages to update the traffic and repaint the Airbuses.

Here we go, first flight on the new system, I love how smooth it runs now.

Oh and we have a new home too, FSDreamteam Zurich!

What do you use for AI?

I use mostly manually-installed flightplans from AIG (Alpha India Group, for those wondering- actually, that's where they all come from...) and a few WoAI packs.

Playing catch-up from the past few days; let's start with a CO/UA ferry flight!

N69059 rocketing out of AMA as CO9490 freshly painted with the United titles! I think there were planes painted there, but I I'm not sure if they were UA or CO ones (after all, they could probably handle the title switch for CO planes at the bases).

I love that plane, wish they were still in use in the States. However I am glad that I got a chance to fly on them when ZW was a UA regional carrier and I flew them on ORD-LEX-ORD and ORD-SDF-ORD. Smooth and quiet.

I am not in my comfort zone with long distance flights, however I just had to do this one, LAX-SYD. My new company's main office is in SYD, so I flew over there in FS9 for some "virtual training" with the Project Airbus A380 for QF, flight 12.

Wheels down and flaps down, need to make sure I get this landing right! About 6 miles behind me is my AI counterpart, QF12 that took off shortly after I did. Made for fun ATC communication....you talking to me or the other QF12?  http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/csturdiv/FlightSim/30/ScreenShot14.jpg

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/csturdiv/FlightSim/30/ScreenShot18.jpg
Not a pretty landing, no pretty flare, but we are wheels on the ground, and a big sigh of relief from the cockpit.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/csturdiv/FlightSim/30/ScreenShot20.jpg
The B738 also looks very small compared to the A380!

Not a A380 suitable gate, but this is where I am parking!

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/csturdiv/FlightSim/30/ScreenShot24.jpg
Baggage unloading time, that has to be a long process with this plane.

Notice the fuel left, that is why there was some nervous moments in the cockpit. Almost did not load enough fuel.

Well, I decided to take AerDee's advice and get that MUC scenery. So, back I go from INN. This time, in a LH 732...

Sitting at the gate

Ooohhh, kinda foggy here today

Lined up on my pitch-black runway (argh...)

Off we go
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1302-56-44-06.jpg

Climbing through the soup
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1302-58-30-87.jpg

And just like that - out of the soup, and into the gorgeous clouds
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1303-01-24-34.jpg

Coming down, making the approach into 26R. Weather doesn't look any better here...
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1303-10-27-16.jpg

There is an airport here somewhere, right?
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1303-16-16-58.jpg

I think I see it

Touching down

A glimpse of the MUC scenery

Decided to pull the trigger and pick up FeelThere's "Embraer E-Jets v.2 Embraer 175 and 195". So far I like it, but I still have to go and get some liveries for it. The test flight for today is ORD-MSP...

The next few are a series taken with the anticipation that FS9 would produce pics halfway close to reality, but in truth it doesn't come close...the Andes probably have some of the most beautiful peaks on Earth. This is an inaccurate representation.

Ok, here is a challenge to all of you. This trip is only 98nm, but it ain't easy! Get in something that is turbo-charged, or a small turbo-prop (like a twin otter) and fly VNSI (Simara, Nepal) to VNLK (Lukla, Nepal). It's not bad until you get into the mountains. And since there are no navaids into Lukla, it makes it that more exciting. I decided to do it in FSD's Cessna 337 Skymaster...

Lined up, ready to go in Simara
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1623-18-31-93.jpg

Up we go
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1623-22-24-12.jpg

Up we go to 14,000 ft
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1623-28-26-20.jpg

Uh-oh...here come the mountains
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1623-33-53-18.jpg

They're getting closer!
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1623-44-24-15.jpg

Ha ha...now the fun begins - see the airport?
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1623-57-21-84.jpg

See it now?
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1623-58-43-19.jpg

Not pretty, not exactly on the center-line, but I'm here. Welcome to Lukla!
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1700-01-20-44.jpg

A little back-taxi action
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1700-04-03-67.jpg

And we're parked. Hey - nice choice of airplane!
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww199/xxdarkknight/fs92011-07-1700-05-21-71.jpg

Beautiful picture. Any way you look at it, that MD-11 is just gorgeous!

Pshaaaaaaaaaw you boys, I landed a 747 in Paro before

Well excuuuuuuuuuuuse me, Miss Dingus!    I just tried the same flight again, this time in a Quest Kodiak (Lionheart Creations). MUCH better! That's the perfect airplane for that mission.

But why does that Delta A330 has cargo holds on the left side? is it a special version for the UK market?

Never noticed that until you said something!

Thanks. No wonder there is a "WOW" sticker attached to the fuselage.

Hehehe yeah, maybe the 747 was a tad unsuitable for the operation....

Well, I tried the Lukla challenge but the Lukla that appeared was not anything like the real thing, IT was easy to land and the runwau was not anywhere near a cliff face, Im going to find some scenery for it and go again.

For now heres some from earlier today

No shots from me for a while - currently rebuilding my PC - tripled the RAM to 3GB, doubled the graphics to a 1GB card, etc. FS9 is back on my system but it will take me ages to reconfigure how I had it.

Yes I backed everything up, but im using this opportunity to ditch things I no longer need, and install new stuff I've been waiting to use!
