Frustrating Starting Model A/c Collection!

Fri Sep 16, 2011 2:10 am

I recently decided to start a model a/c collection and bought a few Hogan Wings snap-fit models online. (Not the most authentic, I know, but gotta start somewhere.)

I excitedly started to assemble my first model, and ran into two problems-

First, I had trouble figuring out how to snap in the horizontal stabilizers...which goes on which side, and which side is up??

Second, while handling the model trying to snap in the horizontal stabilizers, I broke the engine off the wing! I haven't had this more than 10 minutes and already broke it! Disappointing, but I guess nothing a little superglue can't fix.

Thoughts?

For the Horizontal Stabs, depending on the aircraft, (most airbuses and boeings) if the stab is canted up on the aircraft, then whichever side the swept portion is facing the front of the aircraft and the whole thing is angled up perpendicular to the fuse is the proper stab in the right side up postition.

As far as the engine, you want to be sure that your superglue is for plastics.

Just use the real deal plastic cement:

It's slower but it actually works. Even plastic rated super glue is pretty week compared to the good stuff.
