FSX Add On's

Mon May 28, 2012 10:59 pm

Hello,

I believe I own the first version of Flight Simulator X. I love my a/c selection but am tired of just the normal selection. I tried adding on Flight Deck 4 but that slowed my computer down. I figure downloading a/c individually would be a better option for me in my case. Have any of you had good experience with Simviation. What benefits do you get for paying $19-20 per year?? If you download an a/c do you get an a/c like one that comes with flight simulator meaning all the windows such as throttle, radios, overhead, etc....??? I am new to this but love FSX.

Thanks,
KH

I'd go for Avsim as your main source of freeware addons. Simviation has a slow downloading speed without reistering, whereas Avsim is quite fast.

What you get in a download depends. It is possible to only download textures, for example. If you search on KLM livery 737, you can get something like: POSKY model, base package required (meaning you have to download a Project Opensky/Sky Spirit plane that has all the necesary files).

In a nutshell, read descriptions, ZipDive (Avsim, you'll find out) and use Avsim.

Another great source is flightsim.com, where you find more developpers who do not like avsim for one reason or another.

If you only have the original version of FSX, and are willing to invest a little money, then the Acceleration pack by Microsoft is the best value for money you get, and a very good update of the whole sim.

Don't go to Avsim any more.

Because like all good things they had to go and ruin it by screwing around with the file library. I guess they haven't heard of the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I haven't visited Avsim since the new library went up, but I don't use flightsim.com as my primary source, as it's download speed is also limited. If I see a nice plane I want to have it quickly...

Well Avsim have already reverted back to their old library system. Somehow I predicted that one.

Then you should buy it. Who do you think is providing the several thousands of dollars per month a website like AVSIM or Flightsim costs? That comes from the payware authors who advertise at these sides, have their stuff sold over the shops ascociated with the site, pay for the publications, etc.
If you see a nice plane somebody or many people have spent 1000ds of hour of work for if. So if you are not willing to wait a few minutes for the download, you really dishonor the authors. Only junk is not worth to be waited for.

If you want to get into more serious simming, like doing pretty much exactly what a proper airline pilot does, then you more or less have to buy stuff. But if you are content with stuff that is just that bit better than default, then freeware is a good choice, and I personally recommend avsim.
