Pan Am "Flies" Again

Mon Feb 25, 2013 1:19 am

What Anthony Toth has done in recreating a good part of a PAA 747 may top what I've seen people on anet do.

Be sure to watch the video.

Redondo Beach man's lifelike model recreates Pan Am 747 in City of Industry warehouse

"On an unusually warm December night, more than 25 years after her final flight with Pan American World Airways - 11 hours from Frankfurt to Los Angeles - Anna Gunther once again put on her pantyhose and blue uniform with white trim, so she could serve dinner on the upper deck of a Boeing 747.

But this airplane wasn't going anywhere. It was a model, like a child's playhouse, built by a man who had dreamed of re-creating the plane he loved as a boy....

Looks like the cabin customer service trainer at my airline (sans the upper deck). Love how they mention the SAF serving method lol.

I noted that " Much of his plane is a former Japan Airlines 747 he rescued from storage space for retired airplanes in the Mojave desert".

Does anyone know which aircraft was involved.

Many thanks.

Wow. This puts my Pan Am fetish firmly in the minor leagues! Great stuff! He only needs a cockpit simulator!

This is great! I applaud his tireless efforts and yes, even envy him a bit. Man that must be somethin in person.

Too bad there isn't someone or a group who want to run an airline the way thye're meant to be that would or could ressurect the Pan Am name in a manner beffiting her former grace and glory.

If he opens it to the public as a bookable "Pan Am 747 Experience" he'll surely make enough to keep the warehouse and mock up in situ

Quoting PanAm1971 (Reply 4):

Now we are talking.

Some people do cosplay, some people wear their favourite sports star's jersey and this guy loves the PanAm 747.

Call me eccentric but when I've earned enough cash I'll buy a 747 ready for the scrappers and attach it to the side of my house.

I think the only word I can use to describe his creation is Beautiful.

I'm lucky enough to work on the B747-400 but I've never had the pleasure of working on the Classic models with the famous spiral staircase.

In all candor, it looks museum quality. Classic aircraft, classic Anthony Toth.

I wish I had the resources to do that...my dream is to live in an airplane..but again, buying an airplane scrap and turning it into a home worthy of the history of the bird? Not cheap.

Airplane nerd? Guilty as charged.

There was a thread on this topic started several days back in the Aviation Hobby Forum (which is where this thread is better suited):

I saw this a while back - it's very cool!

My first Boeing 747 flight was in 1971, aboard the then brand-new Clipper Derby. Even after more than four decades, I remember boarding the gleaming airliner at the Pan American Worldport. A Pan Am 747 was also the first Jumbo I saw in flight, an astonishing sight to a young airplane nerd (now I have just progressed to a middle-aged airplane nerd)!

The Pan Am 747 is "not dead yet" - Two ex-Pan Am Boeing 747s are still around!
