Future Of Flight Simming

Sat Dec 28, 2013 9:27 pm

Hello all,

Just curious as to what the future holds for Flight Sim, now that MS has opted out... Is the future solely in the hands of X-Plane now? Any other projects currently in development or planning?

Thanks.

Fact is, that FS2004, FSX and P3D mostly live from third paty add ons .. also all three developments are based on a graphics engine that is more than a decade old! and has reached it's max. Many other games and sims have a much better engine and I suspect that the next big task will be to port the add-ons and merge them with a a new FS environment in a new software.

Take Google Earth Fight sim with the new atmosphere engine and have that work with FS add ons ...

P3D

This. This IMO is the only hope for hard core simmers. Lockheed has be developing it and since they also use it for commercial flight simulators we have a good chance it will be around. Sure it would better if someone just built a new simulator from scratch but for now this will do. I think as more and more time passes hardcore simulation such as FS is going out of style of kids these days want action, not simulating a routine MIA-LAX flight. I have not made the switch to PD3 but it will likely happen in the next 2 years or so. For now FSX has only been getting better because of some create addon developers.

That being said it is pretty amazing what people are still doing with FSX. I just purchased the PMDG 777 and Active Sky Next weather. FSX is like a completely different simulator with these two addons. As long as companies like PMDG, HiFi, Mytraffic, Majestice Software etc.. are still in it FSX will still be plenty of fun to use. The only major issue is where will PMDG and the other reach their limit and when will new operating systems no longer handle FSX. We would hope that at some point a new sim will be made from the bottom up. Just imagine the type of sim we could have with todays technology.
