Ramp Access/Tours?

Mon Feb 28, 2000 10:25 am

Does anyone know of any regualr tours (or other such activity that could give ramp access) at a major airport?

I'm really looking for ways to get on the ramp for some unique photos. Problem is, I don't know anyone who works at an airport, and I highly doubt I could get an impromtu tour just by simply asking at the gate.

There's gotta be open houses, press conferences, etc. happening on a regular basis at major airports...anyone know of anything coming up (anywhere) that's open to the public?

Unfortunatley, most big airports are locked up pretty tight. You definantally need someone with a ramp pass and escort/driving privlages.

Nikonman is right, getting ramp access, in this day and age is very difficult. I'am fortunate, that I have made contacts over the years with airline/airport personel.

Now if you happen to be in Brisbane, Australia, sometime in the near future, well, there are guided tours of (BNE). I read this in an issue Airways (Aug 1999, pg 20) I hope that more airports worldwide, will be open to this type of operation in the near future. Imagine the possibilities.

There are open houses actually. My mom's friend works at SFO as a rampy, he checks the planes's engines when they arrive at the gate. He brought me on the ramp last October for a tour. I regret not taking any pictures, because at the time, I wasn't into photography. It was a great experience though and I hope I can do it again sometime.

About open houses, there usually is a reason for one. Like at SJC recently, there was an open house, (for media) for the ground breaking ceremony of the new runway. That sentence is a mouthful {G}
