I will be spending two months in Baltimore this summer and am wondering about good places to take pictures out at BWI. Any suggestions?

I red your post about starting photography so I know that you dont have camera with big zoom. At BWI is one spot at the end of the runway, but you will need minimum 200mm zoom. From Observation Deck in the terminal you can take pictures mostly of Continental, Delta and Northwest jets because is located between gates of those airlines. Best time to take pictures from there is before sun get to the point. (so best time for pictures from observation deck is before noon).
Best airport for beginners I think is DCA.
I am kind of beginner too, I started taking pictures 3 years ago and I'm still going to DCA to learn more about aviation photography. Let me know when you are in area, maybe I can show you some spots around here.

LOL, Rafal

you are super good man. I love all of your pictures. Especially the 1000mm zoom photos.
Hmm, I saw someone at DCA last sunday April 16 around 2pm with cameras and I thought maybe it was you with some family. Oh well...

BWI has some great spots for photos.

Sometimes you can get a clear shot from the terminal, but end of runway shots are best. I live in the area and love that airport. Apparently there are some good photo sites near Dulles.

Dear AirGirl,

I live in the DC area too. Although I've taken pictures of planes for years I've only recently started to develop my skills as an aviation photographer. Rafal is correct that the best airport for beginners in Our Town is DCA. My last pic posted to is a Kai-Tak-ish takeoff shot of the new terminal with Crystal City in the background. (BTW, nice aerial shot Rafal).

Be very careful about window reflections inside DCA's "crystal cathedral," esp the main hall. At Dulles, there's a food court around the base of the control tower, on the departures level, that allows good apron shots over the top of the old UAX gates. I don't know the perimeter roads, but riding on the mobile lounges one can get good shots. I've never had a problem getting through security without a flight ticket at any of the three airports.

At BWI, be prepared for heavy traffic on the Balt-Wash Parkway if you go northbound in the morning rush, or southbound in the evening rush.

I'm going to DCA minimum 2 saturdays/sundays a month. I think it wasnt me that time because my family dont like what I like   Sometimes my girlfriend is going there with me.
Anyway, If you see a guy seating on the roof of black Honda Accord, listening ATC and holding camera that must be me

Now we have small variety of new airplanes coming to DCA.
We have American Trans Air (B757-B727) American Airlines (B737-800) Comair (CRJ)
Delta is flying more B757s, ASA is applying for 8 slots at DCA with their ATR-72 and CRJ.
That airport is groving.
