Scanwit 2720 Vs. S20

Fri Sep 08, 2000 3:08 am

Hi,

I am interested in purchasing a film scanner, and there was always the S20, but I have recently learned about the Acer scanwit 2720. Does anyone know anything about this scanner, or have any comments??

thanks,
zach

Hi Zach,

I recently purchased a ScanWit 2720 and I am very pleased with it.

I am told it is pretty much the same quality as the Nikon Coolscan but without the ICE software (automatic scratch/dust/noise removal)...only an informed insiders say-so but I can believe it.

Please don't be put off by the quality of my shots...most were scanned with my old Jenoptik, or recently from prints...but my most recent additions (in September) have all been scanned using the Acer.

And I am very impressed with it.

Well worth it!!!

Dean,

I heard that when scanning slides, they are really dark, but you can adjust that by using curves function...have you found that to be true?

Hi Zach,

Yes...the default settings are dark but I now have two configurations (which you can save and load to suit)...one for bright, well lit slides, and one for dull, overcast slides.

Both configurations use all defaults except the tone curve which I adjusted to work for each set of lighting conditions.

I can email those files if you like but it really is quite simple to setup...after which it works really well.

When I first used it I was horrified to see how dark the scans were...but eventually I found a setting that worked...after which I became more and more impressed.

Now when I shoot slides I am confident they will scan ok...and if they don't it will be because the slide is no good and not the scanner.

With the Jenoptik it was the scanner letting me down more often than not.

Trust me...the Acer is a great scanner!!

Regards,
Dean
