I Need A New Camera...

Wed Sep 13, 2000 1:08 pm

Hello Fellow Planespotters,

My 2 cameras (Canon EOS 1000 and Canon Z115) have both failed in recent times so that I am in the market for a new one. I have taken a few aviation pictures with the EOS 1000 which came out reasonably well, seeing that at the time that I took them I was not into the hobby of aviation photography. (Most of my photos are of landscapes, beaches and the like for which both cameras gave excellent results.)

I would like your recommendations as to which cameras and models are best for aviation photography, as I would like to take more aircraft photos. Also, any suggestions as to good sources for equipment or recommendations as to Web purchases of cameras would be appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

p.s. No attempt is being made to blackball Canon or any other camera manufacturer. If you have a Canon which you would like to recommend, by all means do so! Does anybody have any experience with the EOS Rebel series?

I have a similar problem: I have a camera, but I am thinking sometimes of buying a new one. I have a Canon EOS RT, which is based on the good ole' EOS 600. I will never buy anything different, than an EOS,... unless I see something better.

Seriously, the picture quality is good, the handling itself also very good. But that depends perhaps on what you were using so far. I have tried a Nikon of a friend of mine and didn't like it, simply because it was different in the handling. Of course I know, after some weeks of practice I would handle a new camera as well, but why switch, if the picture quality is the same?

I think it's very difficult to choose the right camera.

I think the camera is a relatively insignificant part of the equation - its the lenses that matter. Consider the lenses you have or are likely to want in future, price, quality etc. then choose a body to suit.

I have a Canon EOS1000 with Sigma lenses which came with the package a few years ago.

Have a look at one of my latest results:

I use an EOS 50e and it works very well...very quick, accurate autofocus, which is what I look for first...then independent focus mode which EOS 50e which I mean the focus tracks moving objects in any mode...which is important to me as I always use aperture priority.

You can see a few of my shots at...

All of which were shot with EOS 50e and Kodak Royal Gold print film.

Also, my recent additions to are all shot with the 50e.

Good luck in your quest.

Hi there!

You can't fail with a Pentax - they have EXTREMELY fast auto focus - faster than any Canon EOS i've ever placed my hands on.

Hi there,

I am using a Nikon N90 and a Nikon N60. Especially the N90 is very fast, but I think a Canon EOS50 or EOS3 will fullfill your needs as well. Especially when you already have the lenses for you Canon EOS 1000.

The speed of the motordrive is very important and the N90 makes 4.3 fps. Also the autofocus motor is very fast, especially when you use "good" lenses. I recently bought a 2,8/80-200mm original Nikon lens and I am very very confident with it.
