Cockpits

Sun Oct 15, 2000 11:09 pm

Does anyone know if Emirates allows cockpit visits into their 777 200/300s? Any things I should do to be given the privilege? What about sitting in the cockpit for landing? Do they allow? Is it possible?

If you want cockpit visits, fly on Qantas or BA. Right now, with the situation in the Middle East, I don't think that those airlines would let you up there. I know Singapore, and EL Al don't allow it period.

it depends on the captain, as he has the final decission who he wants in the cockpit and who not. I have asked a Lufthansa Captain on a flight from Nuremberg to London-Heathrow and he allowed it and so a was sitting in the cockpit the entire flight. You can't say this airline allows it and the others not. OK, some airlines don' t allow it at all, but on other carriers it is the captains decission.

Well i just returned from my trip, and was able to visit flight deck on DAC-DXB on the 777200, then DXB-ATH on the A310-300 then DXB-DAC on the A330-200 first time on the A330, pretty nice a/c especially considering I don't fancy Airbus....(i'm from seattle so...) Liked the stick setup in the A330 office. 777 cockpit was nice also, was in it at night so pretty impressive. Emirates is a good airline...but they need to become NON-SMOKING like the rest of the world.

If you get the jumpseat or not depends on the pilots only, whether they want or not.

Four out of ten flights with LTU and Lufthansa I got the jumpseat for take off and landing.

You see, just ask!

Regards,
Stephan

PS: When you want to take photos, ask the captain if it is possible to take photos (I recommend you to use the flash, but ask the captain if you are allowed to use the flash!).

BA is extremely generous, the fa's have taken my photo in the flight deck with the crew in flight. Anyway, I doubt Emirates will because the Middle East is in terrible shape right now, and rumor has it that the US will begin air strikes in the region soon.

They let me in teh Cockpit for 3/4 flights, and the flt crew were great. They chatted with me, and from DXB-ATH on the A310-300 i sat in the cockpit for maybe...1:30 hrs. Great fun and thanks to the crew...i just wanna sit in the cockpit for landing...but i know that won't happen soon cuz my next trip is with SQ....A310, then an 777, then an A340 then an A340.....it'll be my first time on teh 340.

The landing is a real treat! I was given the pleasure by two Aer Lingus flight crews of sitting in the cockpit on landing in JFK and back home to Dublin. It makes me want to be a pilot even more !
