Take my advice - get an HP scanner if you can.

HP scanners have the best quality, even in their lowest model.(which is what I have - i got it for $40US on sale)

Some scanners show the scanning pattern in the result - NOT the desired effect ! HP scanners don't show this.

Here is an example fron a HP 3200C:

I've bought the HP S20. And it has a specific setting for Kodachrome slides..they seem to come out real nice, so my advice would be go with the S20. Its about $400.00USD best wishes and hope whicher scanner u get turns out some great stuff.

Hi Frank ,

buy Canon's FS2710 - it's the best choice in my eyes .

By the way I am using Fuji Sensia "100" Slide films .

Two example scans of this scanner :

Hi,
I also have the FS2710 and am very satisfied with it.
Just view my pics

http://www.airliners.net/search/advphoto.search?nr_of_rows=XXX&adv_email=stephan.tophoven@t-online.de&first_this_page=0&page_limit=300&sort_order=photo_id+desc&thumbnails=photos

The bad colors of some of my pictures are caused by the old screen I have had and not by the scanner.

But take into consideration to buy a digital camera with a 16m chip -the
resolution is higher than 100 ASA slides.

Soon you can get digital cameras with functions like the EOS 3 and a
better quality.
Also in time it is cheaper than buying slides or films, to process them and to buy a scanner, also you're more independent and you don't have trouble with X-Raying...

If you can wait, it would be the best...

Regards,
Stephan

Hi Aussie,

If you really want the quality.
I am highly recommended you to buy Nikon CoolscanIII approx US $1100.
I beleive it is the best in that grade.
or as you say, Cannon 2710 also is a very good choice.

Hi Guys,

I have an HP Scanjet 5P. From what i understand these are meant to be ok scanners...but i havent had muck luck with acceptance of uploaded photos yet due to scan quality being too low.

Anyone got any ideas of wether these scanners are meant to be ok or not. And also if there is a good piece of thrid party scanning aoftware around (other than HP Scanning software, which has very limited options ie DPI etc) ???

Any help is much appreciated

Best of luck to all

Dave

The 5P was a good scanner when it was bought...but it just won't cut it anymore. You need a 30-bit and 600DPI at least...
