Ask yourself how much would you pay for this photo yourself and then you can set a margine how much do you want others to pay for your work.
Is this a rare photo or something everyone can shoot every day.

The other option you have is ask the person how much they are willing to pay for your picture?

Hope this helps.

As per Mark's question.. What are their intentions for this photo ? If it is a publication i.e. a magazine, I normally charge $25.00 for an interior shot, $100 cover(front/back) $150.00 centerspread. This area can get a little tricky, in particular when it comes to knowing your rights...Do not send off your photo without making it crystal clear to the publication that you want your work returned! I am primarly a stock photographer nowadays and I know from experince that there are a lot of unscrupulous individuals/publications that will be more that happy to take advantage of a neophite photographer who may not be familar with his or her rights. I do not want to get too winded on this topic but if you want any additional info, contact me at t2m@pdq.net

If they want a print, I charge $6.00 for an 8x12 Inkjet print.

Hope some of this helps,

Thomas

Hi Peter and all the others,

the price for a picture depends on the fact for what purpose this picture will be used.

Here some examples:

For this picture I got 300 Euro from a Spanish publisher who wanted to publish it worldwide:

This picture I sold to a Canadian flight school and received 75 Euro:

This picture was published in the book "Airliner Tech B747-100/-200/-300/-SP and I didn't get any money, as I got a book for it from the author:

When I sell pictures to privates, I want something in exchange (e.g. safety card) or just wanted my costs back.

Hope that would help you.

Regards

Mathias
