Photos From Inside Planes... Why?

Mon Dec 11, 2000 10:03 am

I don't want to come off like a snob, but I'm curious why so many photos of engines and wings over an indiscernible countryside make it onto airliners.net?

I have shot plenty of them myself, but do they really serve any purpose here?

Not flaming, just curious. It just doesn’t make sense to me because it shows almost nothing about the aircraft.

If you have ever flown on a plane, don't you look out the window? Taking pictures out the window is the same thing. There is more than one angle of an aircraft photo, not just a perfect 3/4 front view with a dark blue sky. Engines and wings make the airplane FLY. For those fortunate enough to fly often, or even just once, these are views from the inside looking out, instead of the other way around.

Actually, photographing from inside an aircraft in flight is more difficult than most realize. Airliner windows can be dirty/scratched, inside glare can be a problem, and the sun must be in the right place. IMO, these photos belong here.

Hi,

I too think these are appropriate...at least more appropriate than the hot air balloons that I saw uploaded today.

The type of photos I don't like since ever are the interior photos, it's sooooo boring to see passenger seats, what's interesting about that in a site about aircrafts?

Sheesh...I'll bet you're the type of flyer who would rather watch the in-flight movie rather than see different parts of the world from a not-so-everyday perspective.

Seriously, I think it's fun to take these types of shots. It can be very difficult at times, and I get a great sense of satisfaction every time I pull off a "keeper". I agree that some of these types of shots can be quite bland (especially when you can't get the whole wing or engine in the frame), so I only shoot if I have a great angle with good light. Having flown about 60k miles this past year, I only had three or four REALLY good opportunites for nice shots.

I could even say that taking photos of airplanes from outside as they t/o or land some of them can be very boring! If you start imagening the beauty of in-flight photography or "Map view" of the world, that flight could be much more than a social class in high school!

Ironacly, I just posted my first photo while flying from Barcelona, Spain to Frankfurt, Germany, this August, 5 The photo is of Switzerland. If you look at that photo, think that without the AIRPLANE there would be no photo!

Excuse my mistakes!

It IS unfortunate that the only photos of this type MUST feature a part of the aircraft and/or an airport overview. Scenics, sunrises/sunsets, and cloud formations are always rejected due to content and lack of an appropriate category.

Fyi...I got all kind of e-mail after my LH inside shots at FRA. Just to give you an example:

Someone from Australia contacted me and asked me if seat 1C had an overhead bin as he was traveling with sensetive equipment.

Then some else contacted me if I took a picture of the upper deck Lavatory of the B744.......stuff like this I get all the time.

Passenger cabins are pretty boring espcecially on narrowbodies but it is kind of interesting to see the cabin layout for F and C class (widebodies) at the various carriers.

Thanks for your replies.

I do love flying and *always* sit at a window seat when I can get one. I have several shots taken from the window and appreciate how hard it is with the scratches and multiple panes. I'll even post one!

But, I think some of you missed my point... I just could not understand why they are posted here and accepted to the site.

You guys have set me straight! You replies made me realize that everyone has his or her own area of interest and I'm open to that!

Thanks and keep it coming!!

Sunil

PS: I actually found a use for the shots... model building. It's very hard to model the inboard side of engines and these shots will help a lot to add the little fins that some airliners have.

Hi,

I personally love what I call "window shots"...and I always take them when I fly.

I am not so convinced that they are so readily accepted here though as I have tried with little success to get a number of my "window shots" accepted...to date only one has been added to the database...

But I have compiled many more (with all of the respective photographers permissions) on my personal site at...

http://www.click.here.co.uk/sky_pics.htm

I love this type of shot and I always ask for a window seat to try and take more for myself...for me the thril of flying is all about the view from up there...that and many other things...

People can come to those shots to see what their ride will be like. I personally enjoy these photos as well, but I also like terminal interior photos, especially those picturing a mid - late 70's style. Unfortunately there are not many of these in airliner.net. and none picturing a mid - late 70's style.

I know this isn't a picture of an indiscernible countryside, but this photo from inside a plane is all Delta Air Lines!

The thing is, these photos are nearly the most popular! As soon as one is uploaded it is viewed plenty of times! More then the normal type of aircraft pic! So please keep your comments to yourself. If you have ever been in a plane it is great to see that again and wish you could be there once again!

There should be a chance that when I go to SEl,I should be able to get an interior view.

Im sorry sunil. But it just upset me that people were wondering why these photos were accepted, when i have actually noticed they are some of the most viewed photos on the database. Very sorry about that comment, was in a hurry and a little angry at the time.

I have had the chance to photograph the inside of
aircraft the only way to do it right is when the a/c
is empty and you have to use alot of slaves and
stobes to get it to look right. (its a true pain)
