Do You Feel Embarressed @ Taking Inflight Shots?

Sun Dec 31, 2000 9:11 am

Hi!
I am new to aviation photography and I have one big problem @ the moment. I feel really sad and boring when I take shots out of my window during flight however I love aviation photography, it's my life and sole but I feel like I have got to be dead quick before cabin crew and pax spot me but with a Nikon F60 camera it's a bit hard to hide it, especially with a 300mm lens!!

Please give me some tips on how to restore my confidance in myself taking 'world view' shots!

I have had no problems taking pictures from the window seat. Whoever is lucky enough to sit next to me on the plane finds it pretty cool. Also, I have gotten discounts on future flights with American and Southwest when the flight crews found out that I am an aviation photogrpaher.

Keep shooting

Hey its a great way to meet Flight Attendants! I hooked up with an F/A after a flight from ORD to IAH a couple of weeks ago! She saw me shooting and we started chatting. And it has happend on 3 other occassions before that.

It's all in the approach, I don't care. I find it actually funny if people asking what I am doing?

I personally am not a big fan of inflight cabin pictures, but a nice sunset is always welcome.

Why is it embarrassing if pax or f/a spot you?
I think it is more embarrassing if you spot the pax sitting next to u picking his/her nose. That is embarrassing, nothing else...........................

Take pride in what you do for a hobby and if someone ask you, tell them you are taking pictures for your grandma's photo album............just kidding.

Have fun
Vasco

p.s. last year when I flew SIA First Class from FRA - JFK I took some pic of their SKy Suite and after I was done I chatted a little with the F/A and she asked me if she can take a picture with me standing there.......I said sure

Everything works...................it is just in the approach...............

Hmm I wonder if such delights occur here in Europe. There's only one way to find out!

Thomas,
when i was single i was still flying alot and i used every opportunity to meet females- FA's, pax, any kind- especially if a hot one is sitting next to you- do what you can and b.s. them, just get 'em to go out and do what you have to do.

I think FA's are attracted to the big cameras we have (I presume you have a big camera).

I once struck up a nice conversation with a Sweedish FA on Alaska. We had quite a delay, and I decided to stay onboard and chat for the delay. It was quite fun! She kept handing me free coke and peanuts. After the fourth can of coke I was wired all night. Friendly (and hot) FA's make the trip much more fun, even more so when there is a delay.

Being a ramper kicks ass! I get to know all our FA's... then when i fly somewhere, the FA's come sit next to me all the time since im the only one THEY know... HAHA, makes the other passengers jealous...

Anyway i've ever only dated one FA and it didnt go very well... she was very pretty but overwhelmingly ditzy.

------------------

As far as inflight pics, i feel rather uncomfortable taking them when im in first class. Be me for a second, im almost 19 years old, sitting in first class... already 95% of the other people are looking at me thinking "what the heck is that little punk doing up here??"

whatever..

Hi people!
Ok- be myself and I may get some free nuts. (peanuTs!) and a date with the cabin crew!!

Cabin shots are awfull, window shots are dead nice especially sunsets!

I have just got my 300mm lens camera so I will use it when I fly on VS flight #VS019/ VS008 to SFO and back from LAX. I have a 300mm lens just in case, proberbly won't use it to that extent! Last time I flew i used a normal camera like with a 28mm lens and the pics come out quite good but not to airliners.net standerd! So I got the new camera for xmas.

I have flown first class once and upper class once too, both times I took shots of the view, cabin shots are dead boring and pointless in my opinion but they could fit some peoples taste I suppose....

Thanks for the tips people!

Why don't you just wait until there are few/no pax still on board?!
