Whats A Good 75-300MM Lens Under $250 For A Canon?

Sun Jan 07, 2001 8:45 am

I'm thinking of purchasing the Canon EOS Rebel 2000 Kit and I am planning to buy a 70-300MM lens for the far shots. I only have a limited amount of money to spend. Maximum $250. What is a good lens that will get me good quality photos? Now I am NOT asking for the best lens out there, just a decent one that will satify me and get the job done. Also, photos that would be accepted on airliners.net. I was looking into a Canon, but I read some pretty bad things about it. Its only $229.99. But it seems to be a poor lens.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello-
You might want to look at the Tamron 75-300 f/4.5-5.6. I own it along with my canon, and I really have nothing bad to say about it except the auto-focus is a bit slow.

There are tons of lenses out there in that zoom and price range - I'm just giving you one idea.

Thanks. I'm looking into that one you pointed out, and a Sigma one.

I've got the Sigma, I've got some pretty good shots with it. Same speed problems with the autofocus.. especially when it is cold. It is also pretty hard to get into focus at all when you switch to manual. There seems to be a little bit of play in the mechanism.
