Shooting The New BMI Colours?

Thu Jan 25, 2001 7:01 am

Hi all

Someone will have to tell me and give me advice on how to focus and set exposure for the new British Midland colours.

 Smile

I mean, is that not one of the most hideous liveries ever to appear on an aircraft?

What do our overseas photographers think of this one?

And no swearing please :)

Right, I'm back and I've seen it and I'm not a happy man.  Crying
It's not the livery that wants shooting, it's the designers, what were they on for goodness sake!

I prefer the old but one thing for sure is I can't wait to shoot (with film, that is) their A330's in NY, ugly or not...

Its awful. I heard Landor were involved in the design? Looks like their recent handiwork - b....y awful. How come their 1984 BA livery was so good?

A design fit for the 21st century...!

Gary, don't tell me you won't exaust a couple of rolls
of 36 getting them covered?

The current scheme is old-hat, very very drab and
unphotogenic, even on a sunny day.

When did BM change their colors ? And where can one see this new scheme ? I checked their web site and saw no new livery, and there is nothing in this database. So, can someone put up a link or post a photo ?

Thanks EDIpic, well it is certainly......diffrent! I suppose it is one of thoses liveries that will grow on you after a while, at least it is not another Eurowhite!. I do agree with those that preferred the previous scheme.

This carrier is slated to start an IAH service sometime this year or next, its still up in the air (pun intended!) as to when. I was really looking forward to seeing their A330s with those eye catching Dark/Blue colors of old.

Ok, I'll break from the pack here. I love it!!!!! I suspect that in bright sunlight this will be a very spectacular scheme… especially on an Airbus 330.

I’m with Mike; I can’t wait to see the 330’s here in the US… except at IAD, not New York  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Naw, a perfect touch-down shot here at YVR of the A330 would out-do any N. American airport. Ha!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy BTW, what are their plans with the A330s? With the list of routes they want to serve, it seems like there aren't enough A330's to get the job done! Even YVR is on the list!

Rob

Hi all

Maybe this is for the civil aviation forum but just one last post from me.

I head the official launch is 1st Feb and there is already an A330 painted up in Toulouse for the ceremony. I wonder how the photographed A320 slipped through?

Anyway, yes, I suppose the livery is different and of course I will shoot it. The shot of it on the web is not the best anyway, so lets hope for sunshine when we all see it  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Sorry to disagree folks, but I like it! I never liked the old livery with that dark grey underside, but this is good. At first glance, I was reminded of the "Shamu" whale scheme used on Southwest Airlines. I also like the understated Union Jack on the tail (proud to be British, but no need to shout about it!)

Cheers,

RE: The New BMI Colours...launch...

Hi everyone,

Gary...a correction on the launch...

I understand there is a 330 painted in the new colours ready for delivery at Toulouse...but...

The February 1 launch at Heathrow (no stampede please!) will feature the newly delivered A320 G-MIDU which has been in a hanger at Heathrow after flying in recently with the basic (basic??) colours applied but no titles...

The plot thickens...but I am planning a Feb 1 visit...any takers...??

Dean

RE: Launch... And A330 Plans

The formal new image launch is Feb 1 at Heathrow. We also have had a 737 at East Mids that's been stripped for repaint in the new colors - last time I saw it it was all bare metal. A good contact inside the airline said that the image makeover was done by Landor.

A330s enter service in the spring, one doing Manchester - O'Hare and the other doing Manchester - Washington Dulles. The third A330 is going on lease to Scandinavian (for a year, I believe) and is slated to be in Star Alliance colors to save repainting it.
